June 20th, 2023

Short story: Moved to the area in June, 2022. Found this place shortly after and loved the amount of food they gave. Loved ordering pork fried rice even though they don’t offer bean sprouts.

Today, after the gym, I decided to order pork fried rice with extra pork. Paid. Got home and noticed it wasn’t the usual amount I would receive. Didn’t have a problem with that. The problem came after I started eating. It was just too bland and dry for pork fried rice. Also, face some to a friend of mine. He was just hungry and didn’t care about the flavor.

Called just for a simple remake. They agreed and wanted me to bring the food I didn’t eat. Got there with the food. The girl at the front wanted me to show her the food. I started to open the bag. Before I finished, she took the bag from me and opened it and the food container herself. Right after, she said I ate half the food. Mind you, they didn’t give me the usual amount of food. She even said she put the food in the container when I brought it up right then and there. The food they were replacing it with was like a mountain compared to what they gave me initially. I told her I gave my friend some food. She obviously forgot how much food she gave me and that’s fine. Just don’t try to make me out as a liar. The guy tall lengthy guy, who I assumed made the food, wasn’t helpful either. It’s like they both wanted me to just go. I was the first person to call about the food.

In short, been ordering here for like 9 months. She caught an attitude with me returning the food for the FIRST TIME. I took the remake and tried to eat it, but it was just the same; straight bland and nasty. Threw it away (pic). I just won’t come back.

I really did like the place, but poor service/communication when issues arise will kill a business. I’ll make a further drive to get chinese.

Truly wish this...

My first time in Augusta and I drove past this place seeing the name stood out in particular. Formosa is a name I haven't seen or heard for decades. After my daughter's volleyball tourny, we drove back here to have dinner ( one car in the parking lot was sus) We walked in and I immediately had a Anton Ego moment. The decor took me back to my 1980's childhood. The food even more so, another Anton Ego moment. The dishes were so old school authentic. The pan fried noodles with beef were perfectly sauced and not soggy with that flavor from a decades old chef with a family recipe. The chicken with actual fresh snowpeas was amazing and a lot. The prices were unbelievably low compared to other dine in equivalents. I sat sharing my experience when i was her age in the exact same environment here. I pointed out all the old details of the place. it was a great bonding moment. Oh, the dim sum shrimp dumplings didn't have fillers. Super friendly staff. If I wasn't 4 hours away, I would be here every weekend. I asked the waiter about the name and confirmed the place has been around for about 40 years, hence the origins of the restaurants name. If you want a relaxing, bit of history proper chinese food...check this place out. Sorry in advance for the half eaten pictures of food. Couldn't...

Formosa use to be great. But the last few years, even before covid, its gone down hill. I use to love their sweet and sour chicken but it's been hard and taste like the smell of dog breath. My husband loves this place so I keep trying again but today is my final try. Spent 32 on lunch, and tipped, on a Togo order. Got home and order was wrong. Called them about it and they were rude when I brought it back. Our main dishes were sesame chicken and honey chicken. We got sweet and sour and what looked and tasted like chicken thats been sitting in sweet and sour sauce for a while. It was mushy and gross. The egg rolls were dark brown and so greasy, they dripped when you picked them up.

I'm sorry but if I'm paying that much for a lunch special AND tip on a Togo order that yall don't have to do and work on, I expect not to be treated like it's my fault yall messed up, or my fault you served me chewy old chicken that tastes like the smell of dog food/breath. Maybe their serving animal. Wasn't there a place in augusta that got shut down for that q a while back?

We will NEVER eat here again. Bad food. Bad service. Treated beyond poorly. Your not better than anyone because you own a restaurant so stop treating...

This was the most horrible Chinese food We have ever had. Maybe the most horrible food period. The pork egg rolls were soggy with grease! The pork fried rice had no peas or any vegetables at all, and we couldn’t even find the pork. The sweet and sour pork sauce was this insanely bright red color with no pineapple or bell peppers, it was just this crazy runny sauce and the pork was tasteless and tough. The sesame chicken should come with a sweet think brown sauce with toasted sesames. This one came with the same sauce as the sweet and sour pork with a sprinkle of uncooked sesames. There was so much breading I couldn’t figure out where the chicken was. I tossed mine after a few bites and hubby couldn’t finish his bc it was just too gross. I hope someone opens a good Chinese restaurant here someday. (I really miss Shanghai’s)
