Apologies up front for a very long review!Where to start...oh boy. I guess first of all, if you are looking for the Frontera Mex Mex that has been in metro Atlanta forever, I'm not sure if this location is still affiliated anymore?? Judging by what I see on Google Maps / reviews it appears that they still are. As locals know, this location had a fire quite some time back and they have been remodeling ever since. I’m not sure its quite fair to still have 2000+ old reviews about this location since it is now so completely different. This place is brand new, and now what many are thinking it is when walking through the door! The good.... the remodel is quite nice although there seems to not be enough space between tables without either being bumped into by wait staff, or bumping chairs with your neighbor. They have made it more upscale than what it used to be, and the decor is nicer, the plates and glasses are nicer, etc. Mind you the pricing of the food reflects that as well. But overall the new decor looks quite good. One major drawback is that now there is a lot more hard surfaces in here and it is LOUD!!! I left my airpods in on noise canceling mode...otherwise I wouldn't be able to hear a thing in there. The old familiar chips and salsa have been replaced by corn tortillas cut into strips and fried in house. They are noticeably not as light as others from the past, or what i had at the Frontera on Five Forks last month (see my review for that location from a month ago - a very different review from this one). The traditional salsa (roja) does not come to the table unless you ask for it specifically. Instead they bring you a flight of cute little bowls with their fire roasted salsa, which Frontera always brought to the table, a salsa verde, and a little bowl of cheese dip. Its a great-looking presentation, and the food presentation was also quite attractive. Wife got cheese dip for her, and I got Fajitas. Unfortunately, someone didn't tell the cooks when something touches a skillet that's 600 or 700 degrees, anything that touches it will burn to almost ashes! The rice tasted disgustingly burnt...why you might ask? Because the bottom layer welded itself to the skillet and turned black, and all that smoked infused up through the rest of the rice. It was completely inedible. How about the beans that come with it? Well… by the end they too were burned on the bottom, although they lasted longer than the rice presumably because it took a little while for the liquid to cook out of the beans before they got ruined too. A poor piece of steak came in contact with the skillet, missing the bed of onions, and you guessed it...blackened. All in all, the steak that didn't get burned was pretty tasty. Its just sad that the rest of what was on my plate was ruined. See pictures. To their credit, they did comp my wife's cheese dip, although I did not ask them to do so. I would not have even said anything had they not asked. BUT...when you ask, you have to be ready for the feedback. I will say the manager was very polite and courteous as she handled the situation. I hope they improve. Based on this experience, I'm not sure i will be back to this location. Although, I may give another try one day as I wouldn't mind trying some of their tacos. Just be warned south Gwinnett county...this is quite a different style restaurant, NOT the Frontera you're thinking of that was here for years. It’s back to the Five Forks location for me I believe! Five Forks is more of the traditional Frontera I know and love…the chips, the salsa roja, the moles… we will see how this...
Read moreI was by myself on a Sunday evening and wanted to sit out on the nice, new, covered patio for my meal. The newly refurbished Frontera was just so pleasing to the eye; it was very nicely decorated and the hostess, waitress and general manager were very welcoming! I was seated right away. I already knew that I just wanted something light, so I ordered an ice water with lemon and an order of ceviche. I had my ear buds in for my phone and was just going through some videos while waiting for my order which was quickly brought out to me. As I was sitting there just enjoying the weather, two young 12 to 13 year old boys starting acting out by running back and forth on the patio, and then even doing cartwheels! There were a couple of adult women in their party who chose to ignore the boys' noisy, inappropriate behavior. I tried to overlook the antics while enjoying my meal, but these two boys were coming over into my area (no other guests were on the patio at that time, and I had specifically chosen a seat on the other end of the patio). As the boys' didn't seem to know that what they might be doing was becoming more intrusive and louder, I decided to look up directly at them. One boy seemed to understand that this behavior was more for a different environment ... the other boy was clueless, but decided to move back to their party's table. OK! Almost as soon as this situation resolved itself and I was nearly finished, a family with three young children came in. The oldest boy was about 5 or 6, who promptly stood up on the cushioned bench and ran the length (about 20 feet) kicking every single back cushion, including where I was seated on the other side. First of all, why did the parents ignore this behavior and think this was ok behavior from a child that was at an age to know better? Secondly, if I was the general manager and saw anyone doing this damage to my newly renovated interior, I would say something right away ... how is this that parents choose not to teach their kids basic restaurant manners? Incredible!!! Please don't tell me that parents are so overwhelmed or tired that they can't muster the energy to tell their offspring to sit down and stop destroying the new restaurant. I had three kids in 4.5 years, had a husband that traveled all over the country from Monday through Friday (so wasn't much help just on weekends). If my children acted out in a restaurant, even McDonald's, they were immediately escorted outside until they could tell me how they were going to behave back at the table. They soon got the idea that they would not be allowed back in if there was any crying, screaming, or other stupidity, and, it worked, even when they were very young! Parents, grandparents, general managers, etc. ... please stick up for basic respect to restaurant patrons who just want to have a pleasant meal out, and please respect the owners who work hard at their jobs, not even thinking they would have to tell "normal" people to control their kids who are destroying the very property where...
Read moreMultiple return customer. We came out on Sunday around 5pm. Weather was nice so we sat outside. Server was good at first, then once our food came out, we weren't able to eat out side because Bea was all over the place when food came out. We had small children so we didn't want them to be bitten by Bees so we asked if it's okay we move inside, shortly after we went inside. No one help us to move inside withe food and drinks so we have to move it by ourselves Once we were inside the waitress has an attitude which we don't know why. We asked for our servier to order additional things which she took over 30 min to come to out table with horrible attitude. To pay we littarly had to walk up to her to make a payment cause we sat and waited for more than 20 min. No the restaurant wasn't busy at all.
We never understood why we were treated the way she did all we did was moved from outside to inside due to Bees being allover our food. No one should experience this, I have been there many times and this is the worst 💔 experience I have seen. If server is not capable of serving groups then the table shouldn't be giving. We have experiences of serving, we do get being busy but totally neglecting your customers not acceptable. The waiter didny care tge fact that her 18/20% of tip is already added to the bill since we are large group. My opinion is she could have made more that the 18/20% of of $280 bill if we had better experiences.
I personally wouldn't go back again there any many Mexican restaurants in town that will treat you w with respect and best hospitality. We want not just tge food but also the srvies that comes along. That's why we go out to eat at restaurant if not we could cook the food at home period.
Don't under estimate people based on thier color or discriminat because they brown and speaks different language. Black and Fournie...
