Somebody is lying about the reviews. This is DEFINITELY not Mexican food. Maybe Mexican inspired. And itâs not even great. I shouldâve known when I saw American food choices (burgers, wings, etc). The waitresses were nice but servers really didnât communicate with each other so it took about 10 mins for someone to get our drink orders⌠which was when we went ahead and ordered our food. The food was basically awful. My friends and I came starving and she started with queso & chips. Queso cheese dip was practically a processed cheese dip, not even the good fair or movie theater type of cheese, but the pale yellow white color type with a weird aftertaste and would it hardened quick. We waited at minimum 45 mins for our food. I was patient because it was busy but Iâm also pregnant and needed food immediately. I didnât want to use it as an excuse so I said nothing. Luckily I had the chips to hold me over which I thought the complimentary chips and salsa were fantastic at least. I had the shrimp cocktail and it was supposed to be marinated shrimp with pico de gallo and avocado. Itâs just a little overly boiled shrimp in a super thick sauce and definitely not marinated. Sauce is supposed to be a little more liquid like not thick like ketchup. I added our chipsâ salsa to it to taste better and and sauce consistency was better so it wasnât so bad. There were no crackers to go with it and there no Mexican hot sauce whatsoever there. Almost all Mexican spots have at least TapatĂo or Valentina sauce and crackers to go with their shrimp cocktail. I asked for additional limes and never received them. My food was almost bland but I wasnât about to waste $12+ so I ate it all. I finally saw yelp reviews today that closely matched my experience and unfortunately my friend saw only the good reviews on google. She was beyond angry. Her chimichanga was topped with the gross cheese. Her husband barely ate his food and the two of them did not enjoy the experience. I sucked it up. My Arnold Palmer was at least good. I just didnât get my straw back after my refill. I ended up using an unused fork to take the ice out to drink. 1 star for the drink, chips&salsa, and nice super busy server that we barely saw. Definitely never...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to visit Peso Mexican Cantina in Decatur, GA and wanted to share my experience. Overall, I would rate it a three-star establishment. Let me break it down for you.
First and foremost, I have to commend Peso Mexican Cantina for their delicious sweet hot lemon pepper wings. They were truly a delightful combination of flavors and definitely worth trying. If you're a wing lover, this place won't disappoint in that regard.
However, I did encounter a few challenges during my visit. Parking was quite challenging as the place was completely full. It took some time to find a spot, which can be frustrating. Additionally, the restaurant had a DJ and later turned into a Karaoke night. While some people enjoyed the lively atmosphere and made space to dance and sing, it might not be everyone's cup of tea. It's something to keep in mind if you're seeking a more relaxed dining experience.
Another aspect that concerned me was the presence of security later in the evening. As someone who is not familiar with the area, it made me a bit apprehensive. However, I understand that it's important for the safety and well-being of all patrons, so I appreciate the effort in that regard.
One thing that struck me as odd was that despite the name "Mexican Cantina," the menu had a lot of American food options. From burgers, fish, chicken, and pork sandwiches to shrimp Po'Boy and Ribeye Steak, it definitely had a strong American influence. On the Mexican side, they offered tacos, quesadillas, Mexican pizza, and shrimp ceviche. If you were expecting a solely authentic Mexican dining experience, this might come as a disappointment. However, if you're open to a fusion of American and Mexican flavors, you might find some dishes that suit your taste.
While Peso Mexican Cantina didn't fully meet my expectations for an authentic Mexican dining experience, their sweet hot lemon pepper wings were a standout dish that I would definitely return for. The parking situation and the lively atmosphere may not be ideal for everyone, but if you're looking for a place to have a great time with music and karaoke, this might be a good fit.
I hope this review helps in providing an honest and balanced perspective....
Read morerecommended this place because we both love Mexican food! Well I must say the food was good but that wasn't the reason for the two stars.....it was the customer service or lack thereof. Firstly, we sat at a table for about 5 minutes before anyone came over to wipe the table off and take our drink order. After the waiter took our drink order he neglected to give us a menu so we could order our food. It was very hard to get his attention and he really didn't have a welcoming disposition. Finally, he noticed that he didn't give us the menu after several minutes. Well we ordered and it took over 30 minutes to get our food! By this time I'm truly annoyed but still tried to enjoy the afternoon with my husband. My husband ordered a sweet tea and sat the empty glass on the edge as a hint to the waiter to refill it. No avail, after several minutes went by I gestured to the waiter that he was out of tea. The waiter brings over a pitcher of tea. I laughed and shook my head. When it was time to get our bill, our waiter couldn't be found for some time, so my husband stopped another waitress and asked if she could get our waiter. She looked annoyed that she was asked to so that. By this time, I'm over it! The waiter comes out with our bill and tells us that we shouldn't come to that restaurant during a ahift change! He said don't come here between 4-6pm! I was done!!! I really wanted to speak with a manager but decided against it and decided that that would be my first and final experience...
