I’m surprised this restaurant has so many good reviews because the food is very average. I got the green (ginger) salad ($4.5), Hawaiian ahi poke ($14) and Bangkok paradise ($18) as a pickup order, which was way overpriced for taste.
The green salad barely contained any carrots or red cabbage and mostly consisted of overly ripened romaine lettuce. The salad dressing was very watery and lacked flavor as well. The Hawaiian ahi poke was the best tasting item out of my order. It was indeed fresh and would’ve tasted excellent with a little more salt. My least favorite item, out of those I ordered, was the Bangkok paradise hand roll.
The Bangkok paradise roll is described as spicy tuna mixed with basil leaves and cucumber, however it tastes like pickled cucumbers in mayonnaise. It was difficult to taste any spicy tuna. Overall, the flavors of the roll did not balance well, which made it difficult to eat. The roll would’ve have tasted excellent had it consisted of tuna and cucumbers tossed in chili sauce, sea salt, basil leaves with a hint of mayo and lemon juice to lessen the heat of the chili flakes.
The food seemed fresher but just lacking in flavor. And the cost was way too high for the proportions and taste. I felt like my order could’ve come from a mediocre grocery store at best. Maybe other items on the menu are more representative if the restaurant but I will not be ordering again in the future to find out. I don’t recommend this to patrons wanting an authentic...
Read moreWe love this place! After moving nearby about a year ago, we discovered friends had been driving 20-30 minutes for almost a decade to eat at Sakura - passing several sushi restaurants along the way. Ask Tim, the chef owner, if you don’t know what to order! The sushi is fresh and delicious. Tim chooses the best and posts a list of daily specials on the white board. Watch him erase one by one as he and three other chefs fill order after order on a busy Friday night (beautifully plated takeout lining the counter). We had the unfortunate experience of observing three guests at a table threaten bad reviews if they had to pay for their meal last night (leaving the owner’s sweet daughter serving them in tears). They’d seemingly thoroughly enjoyed the wine and rolls all evening until the check arrived - then complained about wait time - “you didn’t even have to cook anything.” Please carefully consider any bad reviews. This is not fast food, but it’s worth every cent and an experience to be savored slowly - roll by roll, piece by piece. Take a tip from locals who just order piles of takeout when tables are full - from a chef who greets...
Read moreI love sushi. It's my favorite food. Whenever I travel I like to experience sushi at the best place in the town I go to. I live in Southern California so here at home I have many places to choose from. I have to honestly say that Tim's sushi is one of the best I have experienced anywhere in the world.Even here in SoCal, I compare everyone's sushi to Tim's and all have come up short. When I travel to Atlanta for business, I take an earlier flight just so I can go to Sakura for dinner when I land. And even though I'm only there every other month, Tim remembers my name and what I like and what I don't like. I even created my own salad (house salad with seaweed salad on top) and Tim gave it a name and called it "The Randy salad." You can actually order it if you go there. Great way to start a meal. I can not say enough good things about Tim, the service, and the quality of the fish. I have no idea how anyone could give him a poor rating. It's the best sushi in...
