The experience that Taia H. (review given a month ago), experienced at this location of racial profiling (I am a black female), I also experienced from this same restaurant in addition to freedom of religion violations. Apparently, Starbucks' new "closed door" policy is causing a disparate impact towards people of color. Therefore, PEOPLE OF COLOR BEWARE and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT PATRONIZING THIS RESTAURANT based on my experience and another person of color's experience noted above!
I went into the restaurant, setup my work computer and was approached by two baristas and finally the manager that stated according to the policy I must purchase something. I explained that for religious reasons I was unable to purchase food or drink at that time to avoid tempting myself and once my fast was over which was 30 minutes later, I would purchase a drink. NO ONE ELSE WAS APPROACHED AND ASKED THIS. I WAS THE ONLY BLACK FEMALE PATRON IN THE STORE. At the time of this incident, I was the only person in the store, so I wasn't imposing an issue with other paying customers needing to sit down and again I was going to purchase a drink once my fast was over.
I am a frequent Starbucks customer and have visited many Starbucks, never have I been harassed, let alone repeatedly and mistreated. When the manager approached me, I asked to see the policy that states you must make a purchase during a certain timeframe during your visit as again my intention was to make a purchase after my fast was over and the "manager" refused. I was then told I must leave and the police was called. This manager was an old white woman with fire engine red hair, not dressed in any identifying clothing as a manager outside of telling me she was a manager, told the police she wanted to charge me with criminal trespassing. I never was belligerent, I just asked to see the policy and repeatedly told all staff that this unprofessional manager sent to harass me several times that I am making a purchase because again I am aware of the policy. I am a rewards member and have spent hundreds of dollars on their product, yet I was treated like trash because I didn't make a purchase within an ambiguous timeframe. I called the corporate office and asked where was policy that states you have to make a purchase within a certain timeframe during your visit and they couldn't answer. They only directed me to their website, where it is not stated which I figured, because the unprofessional manager was implementing her own policies. The unprofessional manager did not end up pressing charges, but stated to the police that I could return if I "behaved", insinuating I was an untamed animal. Again dog whistle words. I left on my own, I again I have reported this to the corporate office and the district manager. My fear is that this type of behavior from "management" seems to occur more often than not because this manager was much too comfortable in calling the police using them as her own personal ADT, nothing will be done. I am a taxing paying citizen also and this unprofessional manager is misusing and abusing both her "pseudo authority" and taxpayer resources on frivolous claims and has mistreated someone in the past, but...
Read moreMy internet provider announced an outage for maintenance and I had reports to run so I decided to do as the coffee drinkers do and go to Sbux for a while. I set up my computer and ordered a delicious Medicine Bomb for myself and Pink drink/cake pop combo for my daughter. She has her slime, fidgets, Barbies, coloring book and tablet to keep her entertained (bc we didn't know how long we'd be there) but really there isn't much in terms of privacy or resources for remote workers. The outlet below my seat didn't catch both of my plugs at the same time and I didn't bring an extension cord or anything. But I had to make it work and pray that my battery would last for the duration of my stay. The girl who took my order and later dropped it off didn't make any eye contact but my drink was delicious. I went back for an add on to my order and the guy was very polite and welcoming which meant service redemption. He even told me that his dad also works from home so he understands the struggle :) all in all, I believe I have a fair rating related to my first remote experience at Sbux. WiFi was good and speedy.. and easy to connect to. Some staff fail to provide service with a smile but others know the meaning of hospitality. It's more than just the drink.. it's the delivery for me even more so. I don't drink at Sbux.. we have coffee machines at work which rival their drinks with the push of a button and it's free.. but their tea, cheese Danishes, specialty drinks and cake pops are yum so I'll be back for those, thru the drive thru. Overall happy with the cleanliness and speed at which one's order is made. The internet outage only lasted an hour thankfully so I had no reason to linger... Ordered some Green curry and Lo Mein next door at Izumi for lunch and headed home to...
Read moreI placed an order online, and the app informed me that pickup would be at 7:52 am. Upon arriving I saw it was busy, so I waited until 8am before asking the barista Logan for an ETA. Logan said it would take 30 to 40 minutes. I replied that I had to cancel my order because I had to get my son to school in 10 minutes. Logan informed Micah that the order would be cancelled. Micah was very apologetic and cancelled the order. In my discussion with Micah, I suggested that the app provide better communication. Logan responded in a very nasty tone, saying that we do not have control over how many orders we receive. I was then instructed to look around at the crowd. The tone Logan used was not appreciated by me, and he felt compelled to continue. The way he dealt with me was unprofessional. Upon raising my voice, the manager who stood there the entire time tried to intervene, so I explained that you stood here and let him be unprofessional for three minutes, you had to tell him to stop speaking three times. Clearly Logan has no respect for her. An interesting thing happened when a white man stepped up to the counter and said the wait was costing him money. Logan didn't say anything, he didn't have a nasty...
