Title: Disappointing Dish, but Exceptional Atmosphere and Service Date of Visit: 06/03/2023 I recently dined at Moondance Grill at 8 PM and was overall pleased with the atmosphere and service. However, I must express my disappointment regarding the dish I ordered, the boneless braised beef short ribs priced at $42. Instead of the expected short ribs, what I received was pot roast. While the pot roast was delicious, it was not what I had ordered, and more importantly, it was not listed on the menu. The restaurant's atmosphere was perfect, creating a pleasant and enjoyable dining experience. The ambiance was well-crafted, contributing to a relaxing and comfortable evening. The service was also top-notch, with attentive and friendly staff members who ensured that our needs were met throughout the meal. I appreciate the efforts made by the restaurant to create a positive dining environment. However, the issue arose when I received a different dish than what was described on the menu. Prior to my visit, I had viewed the Moondance Grill website's menu, which featured a picture of what was supposed to be boneless braised beef short ribs. The image clearly displayed a stringy cut of beef, resembling the dish I had anticipated. Unfortunately, what was presented to me was pot roast, which is not listed on the menu as an alternative option. When I inquired with our waiter about the cut of meat, he insisted that it was beef short ribs. Knowing the difference between these two cuts, I kindly pointed out that what I received was pot roast, not beef short ribs. He apologized for the confusion and acknowledged that the menu might be misleading. It was disheartening to discover that I did not receive what I had paid for and that the restaurant had substituted a cheaper product without informing customers. In today's business landscape, it seems that maximizing profits has become the primary focus, sometimes at the expense of customer satisfaction. This experience serves as a reminder to be cautious when dining out, as you may not always receive what you expect, even at reputable establishments like Moondance Grill. Despite this disappointment, I must emphasize that the atmosphere and service at Moondance Grill were exceptional. However, I hope the restaurant addresses this issue and updates its menu to reflect accurate descriptions of the dishes being served. Clear communication with customers is crucial to ensure a positive dining experience and maintain trust. Overall, Moondance Grill offers a lovely atmosphere and excellent service. However, I cannot overlook the fact that I did not receive the dish I ordered, resulting in a significant letdown. I hope that the restaurant takes steps to rectify this issue, ensuring that future patrons receive the meals they expect and pay for. Note: As a reviewer, it is important to remain objective and provide constructive criticism while acknowledging the positive aspects of the experience.

Moondance is one of the top restaurants in the Memphis area. It’s my husband and I’s favorite place to celebrate. The she crab soup this time was a little disappointing. We have gotten before and it had a little more flavor but it was very bland this time. Still had lots of good bits of crab, though! I always get the lobster roll. It is always divine. 10/10. Get the lobster roll. He got the shrimp and grits. He said they were very good also!! Can’t wait for the next trip to Moondance!! Edit: 1/1/2024- we haven’t been back to MoonDance in some time because..well, THEY TOOK THE LOBSTER ROLLS OFF THE MENU. like what??? So we came back immediately when we saw they were back. Of course, I had the lobster rolls and my husband wanted the ribeye but they were out (he loved it the last time we came). So he got the short rib and we split a bowl of she crab soup and spinach dip. The spinach dip was not creamy at all. It was served with sour cream and salsa, which were pretty good. The spinach was almost like a side of spinach rather than a dip. The portion was great, but it wasn’t really a dip to me. Just okay. The chips were good but we got a lot of crumbs. The soup was EXCELLENT. Although my husband thought they put too many red chili flakes in it. I thought the lobster roll changed from two rolls to one before we came (based on pictures we found) but I was happy to find it still come with 2 rolls!! Also great that we now have the option of ordering maine or Connecticut style. I ordered the Maine (chilled) because that’s what they used to serve and I loved it. They definitely changed the recipe though because (call me crazy) there was way too much lobster meat and not enough mayo/celery/etc. It just didn’t feel like a traditional roll but more like a lobster meat sandwich lol. The short rib was amazing. The sides were all 10/10. Servings even seemed bigger! Can’t wait to come back and try the lobster ragout pasta!! Until next time, MoonDance!! (New pictures added)

So, this alleged 5 star restaurant with premium menu selections was a true disappointment. I get it, they're strapped for service staff. The young man was nice enough but totally untrained for the level of service one would expect from an ala carte style restaurant. When my two person bill is $240 for two steaks and a dozen Oysters with three beverages, there's a certain level of expectation that staff be knowledgeable and attentive to all their guests. Unfortunately, the m management had him also taking care of a large party (7-8) that were running him ragged. It's totally management's fault, not the young server. Now to the food. The raw Oysters were huge(not my favorite because they are hard to chew), but at least they were fresh. The char grilled oysters were good, smaller but tasty, though there was zero hint of smoke. The $55 16oz ribeye was allegedly Prime but wasn't anything to write home about. Frankly, the steaks weren't very seasoned. I got the candied bacon Brussels sprouts, and they were cloying sweet. My wife had a much better steak than I did, cooked better, too. She added blue cheese, which was nice, but I added mushrooms that were ok but again, not gourmet. Not to mention added charge for both. I guess I just expect more for the type of restaurant. The good things.... the server was nice and tried to make up for the extended wait. He comped us a champagne toast and a dessert as we were celebrating our 31st anniversary (which I noted on my reservations).... that was nice. Also, A HUGE standout item was the She Crab Soup! The absolute star of the entire dinner, which we only got a cup to share since we were getting steaks.... really should have gotten 2 bowls.....Overall, I felt like we received a $140 value but paid the Bidenomics inflated rate. Be warned, if your expectations are high, lower the bar. I will likely not return unless we want She-crab soup.

My wife and I have always wanted to try this place, and we finally got a chance to have a day date. So we tried this place out. Terrible service and food was bland is a nice way to put it. Here's what happened. We arrived, and it took a while for server to take our order. Our first time here, a "bucket" of fries arrived at our, we were like cool. This is new. So thought these were complimentary fries. We finished the fries before our easier even arrived. Our waiter finally arrived and took our order. We were ready to give our drinks and food order. The drinks came out fairly quick, but order order to a while. So we had to ask our water which did not check up on us, the status of our order. Our order 30 minutes later was not complete. Our order was not good. Our order was sitting on the counter. We ordered 1 steak since we order like 3 apps. We wanted to share our food. When our steak came out, we asked for plates to share from the staff that brought our food ( not our waiter). As our waiter walked by to " check up on us" his comment was, " we did not charge you for steaks". That comment tells me our waiter was saying we are eating someone else's steak also. We told our waiter, "we are splitting our steak" that we ordered. The steak was flavorless, and chewy. Not what we expected for a steak restaurant. It made sense as why he made that previous comment. The staff made a mistake and brought someone else's fries to our table and we ate them. We ordered raw oysters, but they have us baked oysters. The baked oysters were cold and bland. Our short rib tacos, we're bland and avocado looked old. Our tuna stack, the tuna tasted fishy and not fresh. I had to ask for a steak knife twice even though our waiter knew we ordered a steak. So on top of all the bad service and food, we were sitting by the cash register where the wait staff was hanging out. Since they were so close. I could here them talking. And I heard them talking about my wife and myself. Needless to say, this was the worst experience for a steak restaurant first time outside of covid or precovid. I DO NOT reconnect this place. Even if the staff was having a bad day, the staff should still be professional and not talk about the customers the way they did. Being that this place is in Germantown, I had higher hopes and expectations. Entire experience...

RAW FISH ALERT. BUYER BEWARE. NO COMPENSATION IF THEY SERVE YOU RAW FISH.

My wife and I ate at Moondance on Sunday, May 22nd (2022) for brunch.

I ordered the Redfish. When it was delivered to the table, the presentation was beautiful. However, when I took the 2nd bite, on the thin end of the filet, it was raw and barely lukewarm.

As I cut down the length of the filet, from thin end to thickest, it was even more raw.

It took me 20 minutes to get the attention of my waitress despite countless other waiters and waitresses passing by our table looking at the full plate of food sitting on the edge of the table and never asking if we needed anything.

When I was finally able to flag down our waitress, I explained that the raw bite didn’t sit well with my stomach and I’d prefer to not eat anything. I asked her to remove the meal from my bill.

She did as I requested and removed the entree from the bill, but still charged me for the salad that never came out until the entree was delivered (crowded table and rushed food delivery).

No manager ever came to the table. Never offered to remove the appetizer. Nothing.

I've traveled all over the world, and eaten some amazing food in some five star and Michelin Star restaurants throughout Europe… so I know what good food and good service is supposed to be like.

That’s why, when I want good food at home, I support NON-chain restaurants.

If I could give my review zero stars, that’s what I would rate it. But, Google doesn’t allow that. Here’s why I’d rate it zero stars: Undercooked seafood! Poor teamwork Poor service Rushed food delivery Lack of manager concern Lack of any form of compensation for the inconvenience

Tommy Peters was a great man and restaurateur. He will be greatly missed but, more than that, he would be sorely disappointed in what Moon Dance has become.

As a fellow Ole Miss alum, we’ve always supported Tommy’s restaurants through the years because they’ve been great - BB King’s, Itta Bena, and Lafayette’s, but I’ll never go back to Moon Dance.

Very Disappointing. I guess an era of good dining has passed with Tommy, which is sad...
