We’ve been loyal customers of this Barro’s for over six years, but unfortunately, this visit left us very disappointed. After a long, busy day, we came in for a late dinner, arriving just after 10 pm and hoping for an easy win and meal with our older kids. Since the restaurant is listed as open until 11 pm, we thought we had plenty of time to enjoy our meal. However, the atmosphere and service made us feel unwelcome from the start.
The cashier, Audrey H., seemed visually frustrated with us, even asking my husband if we wouldn't sit at a table with chairs, he responded with letting her know there are five of us, half of which already sat down. After a slight pause, she gave a rude nod of "approval," despite our group of five needing the space to sit comfortably and fit all together. While we were understanding of their evening workload, her manner came across as dismissive. We paid the bill by card, and she threw the pen for my husband to use to sign the receipt at him, catching him off guard. She threw the pen from behind her register at him, hitting his arm. He picked it up, then signed, grabbed our drink cups, and took our table number. My daughter, shortly after, asked for a straw, and the young man responded curtly, adding to the overall tension.
As we waited, she began putting up chairs on the tables around us, which made us feel rushed despite having arrived well before closing time. I then quietly approached and asked her if she would like us to leave as we felt extremely unwelcome. She replied with, "Oooh. You're no problem! It's fine! It's fine!" I knew by her behavior and tone that it wasn't fine, but we had plenty of time before closing to eat, and we already paid. When Audrey brought out our food, she hesitated before fully walking away, turning back and asking, "Do you need plates and napkins, or are you good??" which felt odd given the type of meal we ordered. There are no napkins, straws, or plates available for customers to grab, so we had no choice but to request them after she sarcastically asked us. They normally give you plates, silverware, and napkins without asking. If she thought we didn't need them, that implies she thought the five of us would have eaten off the tabletop. None of the food was packaged to go, as we dined in. The overall lack of warmth from the staff was off-putting.
We spent nearly $70 on one fountain drink, an XL cheese pizza, and wings— prices have increased so much, we are overpaying as it is and then we aren't provided with plates, silverware or napkins...basic items such as straws and napkins should be left out for customers to use as needed, and if they are going to be kept and held in the back, it shouldn't be a big deal to for customers to request them. Other tables left their space a full spread out mess. I'm not sure that there are trash cans available for customers, we looked so we could help clean our own mess. We stacked everything appropriately, putting all the paper trash together, then plates together, etc. We didn't want to leave an extra mess for anyone. We always do this, as it's the right thing to do and I worked in the restaurant business as a teenager. The food itself was fine, but the service overshadowed the experience. We understand staff may have had a long day, but customers deserve to feel welcomed until the posted closing time. She accepted our order and money. This visit left us questioning whether we’ll return, which is disappointing given how much we’ve enjoyed this location...
Read moreI was in town for the night visiting my folks and I picked up wings, salad , and pizza for the family. The salad was exceptionally fresh and delicious.
Pizza was slightly undercooked for my tastes but I prefer crispy well-done crust. Love the robust sauce at this place, lots of toppings and the perfect amount of cheese.
The habanero sauce for the wings was too sugary it overpowered the heat of the habanero flavor. It should be more subtle and sweet with a steady burn.
Service was exceptionally courteous and professional. I got my order and out of there in less than 5 minutes even though they seemed quite busy. Thanks again,
I came back here @ higley location 3 months later and had a terrible customer experience so I have lowered my rating. I went in at approximately 8 30 pm 1 hour and half before closing. I came in and tried to stand in the back staring at the menu trying to figure out what I wanted. The cashier did not read my body language or pace timing with the customer. She immediately hurried over and asked what I wanted. No welcoming smile or eye contact at all. My brain was fried from driving all afternoon so I stuttered my response and I was like ummm I'm not sure, it's been a while since ive been here. She rolled her eyes and began looking down picking at her fancy fingernails . I thought this was very unhygienic and gross to do at a place of food service. That I could possibly end up eating little bits of her nails and cuticle in my food off the counter.
why do u rush someone to order a hour n half before close? No one else was ordering at counter so why the rush? The place was half dead. Also No suggestions or inquiries about what sort of pizza do I like. Just me having to listen to her gross picking sounds while i tried to read the menu. I rushed my order and picked the first pizza I saw that was a combination.
I then tried to order 12 wings half BBQ & half hot. She sighed exasperated and said "we dont do that, we only do more than one sauce in batches of 24 or more" which surprised me because ive been eating wings there since the 90's and they had definitely done it in the past. Corporate policy had changed and had gone the cheap fast route for the kitchen with one wing sauce. If a customer wants something that u don't currently provide in that form. u still try to make it happen for them. She could have suggested .. getting two sides of sauce and get them plain . Or get them sauced hot with a side of bbq. She could have suggested buying two separate 6 piece wings orders. But naw I felt like the implication was i was being cheap by not ordering more wings than my family could eat.
Frustrated tired rushed.. I ended up order 6 wings with one sauce which counts for less company sales and unhappy people at home.
No smile , no receipt or opportunity to leave feedback in the form of a tip. Just told me it would be 20 to 25 minutes and then walked away.
It seemed to me like she had a very put out attitude like she thought very highly of herself and how nice her nails looked and but took very little attention to some of the social nuances of the job. Very little effort or enthusiasm like she didnt really want to be there helping me. With the nail picking it was just a unsatisfactory customer service experience overall.
A different person gave me the pizza with a smile and have a nice night. Which made me feel a bit better but i will likely go elsewhere...
Read moreI worked at Barro’s Pizza in 2020 and it was the worst experience I have had with any employer.
My manager Chad was borderline verbally abusive. I was constantly scared to go into the kitchen because of all of the yelling and cursing happening. I was sat down after my shift while all of my managers called me disrespectful for requesting more hours (I was getting 4 hours a week at that point in time). One night, when I was closing I brought all of the dirty dishes to the back sink (as I had done many times before as it was a daily closing task), Chad walked up to me and started screaming at me for adding dishes to the pile before the dish boy had finished washing the pile that was already there; he spent a solid 5 minutes yelling at me in front of all of my coworkers telling me that I think I’m “so much better than everyone else”. I’ve had many many instances of me making a small mistake (as any 16 year old with their first job ever would) and Chad would spend a lengthy amount of time, not just criticizing me, but berating me as a person and my character.
I don’t know how the managers picked their favorites but they clearly did. The team at Barro’s is able to allot different percentages of tips to different people. After the pandemic I assumed that we were not getting tips anymore because I had spent months getting little to none. I found out through a coworker/friend that not only was everyone else making tips, but the girls who were friends with the managers outside of work were receiving the highest percentages of tips by a long shot.
Lastly, I would like to instate my credibility by mentioning that I have worked a couple of jobs since, all of which I have been frequently praised by both managers and coworkers for having a good work ethic and personality. The way this 16 year old girl was treated and hurt by her adult male boss and other managers who enabled him (most prominently, Brianna) is unacceptable and it has taken me a really long time to be able to speak...
