I chose this place for the extensive gluten free menu that did NOT say "Gluten friendly" because let's be real here - I am NOT friendly with the gluten and it ain't friendly with me. Vito's Gilbert was absolutely delicious! The girls and I met up here for dinner to catch up and hang out.
Everyone loved their food and we all chose different dishes. We ordered chicken salad, GF pasta, GF pizza and GF baked hot wings - which were spicy enough to burn my lips and remind me how tasty they were minutes later. Their ranch dip that came with the wings was equally as good and extinguished the wing sauce heat pretty well. I ordered this amazing pizza called the Siciliano with their HOUSE MADE GLUTEN FREE CRUST! You heard me, people... House made crust that was safe for me to eat and I didn't get sick! Yay! The toppings were super fresh and the crust wasn't too heavy or too thin. I prefer a little crunch with my thinner crust and Vito's hit the mark. The drinks kept coming and I never had to ask for refills or more of anything because our waiter was on top of it. In fact, our waiter was very friendly and he made sure to take extra care for my extremely sensitive Celiac's disease. They do have a shared kitchen so always speak with your wait staff and give detailed info on your food sensitivities. He was even thoughtful enough to ask if I had any other allergies or sensitivities before proceeding with my order - which is always nice because not all waiters are created equal but Vito's seems to pick solid ones. Everyone loved their food, their drinks and the service. The prices weren't crazy for my accommodations and if I ever bring any vegan friends, Vito's has a full vegan menu available as well. There was literally a little something for everyone to enjoy and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. I'm bringing the hubster back here because any place willing to make gluten free crust from scratch and have a cauliflower crust on stand by is a good place with me. The restaurant isn't too noisy or crowded. There is nothing worse than having great food but being cramped or packed in like sardines. Not at Vito's. The tables and whole layout is perfectly spaced, has good volume control and the food is spectacular. I haven't visited any other locations but this one makes me wanna try them all. Writing this review has me salivating so I may just have to stop by on my way home from work today and pick up another GF pizza. What can I...
Read moreTLDR: This place has a great variety (just the right amount) and everything you order here is guaranteed to be "good" with many dishes in the "exceptional" range. Hot tip...they have a side room that has closeable doors that is perfect for families who like to be a little louder without disturbing the other patrons.
I have been here many times over the past two years, and I have held off writing a review until tonight. Why I am not exactly sure, but perhaps it is that I find Italian places particularly hard to review as they run a broad gamut. That being said, tonight this place finally converted me to a true believer.
Tonight...I had an issue with one of my sides. Without going too far into it, it was one of those issues that as a diner disturbs you, but as a cook you know happens inevitably from time to time...so what mattered to me was the reaction of the staff. I brought up the issue to my waiter in a "no big deal" way and let him know I did not need a big fuss made of it, just wanted the cook to know that something went awry. As I hoped, he apologized and promised to quickly address it, but did not make an overly big deal of it causing the entire table to ask me what was wrong and turn a great night into a whine fest. No joking, in less than 60 second there was a manager at our table ALSO not making a big fuss of it, but letting me know he was happy to replace my entire plate. As the food was amazing (sausage stuffed chicken with an amazing pink sauce and parmesan risotto). I insisted it was no big deal, and if they really wanted to they could replace the side, but I wasn't giving up the amazing chicken on my plate. Shortly an entire plate (not just a quarter plate "side") showed up of their parmesan risotto.
So after that small tale...if you think of Olive Garden as the Walmart of "Italian", this is more like the Trader Joes of Italian. The ingredients are fresher, the service better, and the ambience/environment not overly pretentious, but also certainly more refined.
I suspect that if you were on your anniversary dinner as a couple and wanted a quiet corner they would find you one. And if you had 20 people celebrating your kids accomplishment in a raucous and laughing way, they would find you a different space in the restaurant.
I wish I had realized that greatness of this place sooner, and will be coming back many many times...
Read moreVito’s does have good food. These days, restaurants need to have good food and also provide a good customer experience. A key ingredient in a good customer experience is being treated with respect. Disrespect was our experience with the general manager. He was called out to our table by our waiter to discuss an issue in which we found him to be disrespectful and argumentative. The waiter couldn’t care less whether we had a good experience or not as we also mentioned to him it was my wife’s birthday. We didn’t expect special treatment at all, but we only mentioned it because the experience had gotten to be so horrible. There are Gilbert restaurants that strive to provide a good customer experience starting at the top. Obviously, that doesn’t start at the top at this Gilbert location. Amazingly, our first few visits there, we never saw this manager in the restaurant. The server in question waited on us two other times in which we tipped him 25% in hopes he would change his attitude towards us. That didn’t matter as he informed us he doesn’t even remember us. Our visits were not that far apart. I only write this because the conflict started with our request for a customized item which was allowed each prior visit delivered with a smile. The manager was sent to our table to TELL us the order will not be met. He wanted to know who had served us in the past so he could correct the error of their ways. As he said he has the final say so and half sausage and half pepperoni will not happen on his watch. That’s a longer story. No restaurant is perfect. Not even close. Mistakes will be made, exceptions will or will not be made, but a bad attitude will destroy a customer experience or as in our case a birthday dinner. We will not be missed by this restaurant but I write this to help you prepare if you need to speak with the manager or you have a server with an “I rather not wait on you attitude”. We are very fortunate with so many really good restaurants to choose from in Gilbert, Chandler, Queen Creek, Mesa and Scottsdale. Thank...
