My wife and I live walking distance to downtown Gilbert so we spend a lot of money on food down here. When we heard there was a sushi place coming to town, we couldn't be more excited. However, after our visit we were left feeling really disappointed.
When we arrived, we sat at the sushi bar. The first thing we noticed was how disorganized everything was. The people making the sushi were placing the finished plates randomly on a metal table behind them. The servers would then walk up and pick up random sushi and take them to the respective tables. I would watch as the old rolls would sit there without being taken while the new rolls would go out first. There was clearly not enough room back behind the sushi bar as you had people constantly running into each other and looking confused in general.
After about 10 minutes and when we placed our order, another couple sat next to us. Our order seemed to be taking a really long time and to our surprise, the couple next to us had 3 rolls delivered to them before we had anything delivered to us. Due to the fact that the service was also pretty bad and nobody checked on us, I had to track down a waitress to see what was taking so long and to find out why we hadn't had our food even though we clearly had our order in before the couple next to us.
Like I said above, I had been really watching the sushi go out as I was really hungry at that time. I noticed that one of our rolls was made but it was just sitting there for what seemed like 10 minutes. During this time, I saw as employees would walk by it and lightly brush it with their shirt or arm because of how cramped it was. When I told the waitress it was taking a while, she reached for that roll and tried to give it to us. I was so disgusted that I had to tell them to remake it (which was the first time I ever had to do anything like that). The waitress and the people making the sushi clearly got pretty angry about this, and I felt bad, but I was not going to eat that roll after what I saw.
Most of the above probably would not have happened had our server actually checked on us. The entire time we were probably checked on twice.
When we finally got our rolls, we were really disappointed. We ordered 2 Cali rolls and 1 Las Vegas roll. The Cali rolls were falling apart before we even touched them. They were also pretty bad and really chewy. The Las Vegas roll was pretty good though so that was a plus.
After that, we got out of there and went somewhere else because we were still pretty hungry. I am writing this review because I genuinely hope this place changes for the better. We are not going to come back for quite a while though. $40 will buy me a much better meal at the places...
Read moreThe two stars is because the food was decent. Everything else was a disaster! Disclaimer: I am in the industry and am fully aware of the staffing challenges that plague restaurants. With the being said, there seemed to be no management available or leading. We arrived and were told a table would be ready in 15 minutes. The hostess took our name and we told her we would be at the bar. We waited at a sticky bar and had to flag the bartender for cocktail menus. She brought back a sticky cocktail menu with a kids menu stuck to it. We made a quick decision then waited 5 minutes for her to return. We ordered a Hendricks Martini up with a twist and a Hendricks and tonic.it took another 10 minutes to get our drinks. The tonic was flat! When we asked her to replace it, she said it was a new bottle of tonic and wouldn't redo the drink. My wife said she would drink it. My martini was barely chilled. This is the point at which we should have left! But, we agreed they were busy and we would share with the server what had happened. At 35 minutes and tables available, I finally went to the host stand and she said "oh, I thought you were eating at the bar". We we sat with put menus and once again had to ask for them AGAIN. When the server center we told her we would like two more drinks. We explained the last problem with the last round, and she assured us she would resolve the issue. We ordered immediately. While the server was kind, she was not trained well, she simply typed in the order with her head down the whole time and barely made eye contact. So, the new drinks arrived exactly as the first ones did. We refused the Gin and tonic and ordered a glass of wine and I added ice to my martini. We asked that the edamame be brought first and everything together. We got the two sushi rolls first, then the tempura, then the potsticker and then, finally the edamame! The food was ok: the tempura well done, and tasty; the potstickers were tiny but tasted ok, the rolls did not taste especially fresh, although they were well constructed and the garlic edamame was good although it was slathered in disced garlic (the bottled kind). Still they were edible. There are so many personnel issues and so many places where there were fails it will be hard to return. I hope this review falls on...
Read moreSushi Brokers was just okay. My husband & I were still on a sushi kick from the delicious, fresh San Diego sushi we had just eaten & Sushi Brokers killed that for me, lol. I'm good on sushi for a little bit now. We came about 45 minutes before happy hour (3pm - 6pm) & I wish we would have waited but whatever. I ordered tea, which was unsweetened black jasmine, when I asked for some sweetener the waitress brought over some old sugar and Splenda packets because they were all pretty much crystalized in the packets so there was just big chunks of Splenda floating in my tea. We ordered three rolls - a damn good roll, a Philly roll, & a rainbow roll. The damn good roll was just good, not damn good, but I'd order it again. The chipotle sauce on the roll really makes it special but my husband said it was a little spicy for him, I just liked the sweetness of it. The Philly roll & rainbow roll were just okay, my husband stated he tasted more cucumber in the Philly than anything. The rainbow roll was really pretty and had a good portion of raw fish. I think it could benefit from some cream cheese but that's just me. They had a pretty big selection of specialty rolls but a good amount of them did not contain raw fish. Prices were a little high, especially considering it was a Sunday & most places do all day happy hour on Sunday so I was bummed I chose to go here rather than one of those places but I'm glad I tried it. I don't think I'll be back but the service was good, our waitress was really personable & cute, & the restaurant itself is...
