Ta Lew Thai Bistro 2 — Restaurant in Gilbert

My wife and I came in for a late lunch. Saw some great positive reviews and wanted to try. We got a little nervous when we saw the drive-thru(We thought it might end up being a generic, lifeless chain) but decided to give it a try. Came in, and the staff was very polite and patient as we looked at the menu. My wife chose the Basil Fried Rice with chicken at the native spiciness level (4), and I got the Evil Jungle Princess with crazy Thai Spicy Level (5). Food came out quickly, and the portions were really nice. We shared bites and loved all of it. Evil Jungle Princess was aromatic and lightly sour. The levels were fantastic! I’m giving 5 stars because I love the original business, but want to give some notes to Ta Lew Thai 2 Vs the original. We have been regulars at the first location since 2020 and, after a move, are technically closer to the new location. While the flavors were spot on, so much quality control was sadly missed. We experienced a bone in our orange chicken, a level 3 curry with the spice level of a 5 (trust me, I’m always a 3!), an order of fried dumplings that sadly came steamed, and veggies in our curry lacking the amazing tenderness and flavor we’ve grown accustomed to with Ta Lew. For now, I’ll make the trip to the original location, but I hope Ta Lew Thai 2 can soon match the exceptional quality that Ta Lew...

We stopped here after church for lunch and had a great experience! My wife ordered the Pad Thai and I had the Pad See Ew with chicken, both very good. My only comment is that the medium spicy level ("Arizona spicy") was maybe a step up from what I was expecting, but the dish was still very good. If you are not familiar with Thai food it can be very spicy.
