It appears this place has a lot of "good reviews." I will say from experience those reviews are probably from the reasonable prices and the moderate tasting breakfast dishes, at least that's what took us back a couple times. We were "on the fence" about making this place our regular breakfast spot or not due to its not-so-cleanliness look and feel of the place.
As you walk in your greeted to what appears to be one of their storage areas, immediately to the right. The main dining room everyone wants to sit at has minimal seating and the dining room in the back is foul smelling along with an unkept bathroom. While waiting for our food I could no longer bare the horse flies hanging out on the window seal (inside) next to me and the other flies that were hovering over the middle of the main dining room. Also, it was obvious that the customers seem to be in question if they question the service or the food. The table next to us reported a hair in their breakfast plate to their server. I heard him tell them, "How could that be?! - No one in the back has long hair!" He then waited for the customer to respond eventually he said, “I'll get you a new plate.” Our experience was an order of Chilaquiles, with what our server gave us TWO options of spice, green or red sauce, mild or very hot. We definitely didn't want it very hot and requested the "mild option" which he said, “green then.” The Chilaquiles that were served to us were extremely hot and inedible. We asked the polite Latina lady who works as an assistant to the servers about the “green and red sauce” she stated, there the “green sauce is the hottest.” When we informed our server about this, he obviously wanted to be correct and stated, “I gave you THREE options of spice, and I told you the green was the hottest.” We went back and forth a couple times as I told him you didn’t give us a third option and asked for the “mildest” regardless of the color. He obviously had the colors mixed up with the heat of the sauce - never offering a third option. His attitude was that of, he was adamantly not going to be wrong and was holding his ground because he “has done this routine explanation of temperature spice for the Chilaquiles for years” and kept repeating, “we’ll just agree to disagree.” But the only thing he explained and displayed to us was that of his rude demeanor. Our server, (identified by one of the employees as an owner of the restaurant) decided he no longer wanted to deal with us and rudely smacked both hands on our table and said, “you know what, it’s free!” and walked away. His rude, adverse response to us did not match our simple questionable concern of our food order.
Anyway, thanks Mike for assisting us with our decision by pushing us over that fence to never return to your restaurant.
By the way, if you’re still reading this and are curious of the THIRD option of spice for the Chilaquiles –...
Read moreOur family was looking forward to dining here. We had driven up, from about half an hour away, to dine because of the great reviews. We came on a Monday, specifically when it might not be as busy, and we were going to take it as a to-go order. There wasn't a line or anyone waiting. My 12-year-old daughter has food allergies and she asked if the potatoes had butter. The woman at the counter said, "no." So my daughter ordered 2 poached eggs and bacon. The woman said, "no, only on weekends." A woman came in the door and the woman at the counter looked at this new guest and asked what she wanted to order, and started helping this woman. Not even giving my daughter a chance to order anything else, or saying, please hold on a second and I can come back to you. We are genuinely always considerate to establishments because we understand that we might have a couple of more questions with food allergies. We always tip really well, and we always order a great deal and take items home because we want to support restaurants, especially family-owned and during the rough times during Covid. This was an extremely disappointing experience, and I am really surprised that a restaurant can treat patrons like this. We ended up going to Danny's. We are here now, they have poached eggs (and a great breakfast/lunch/dinner menu) and they were...
Read moreIf you’re ever in Gilroy and looking for the perfect breakfast spot, OD’s Kitchen is an absolute must-visit. This small, family-owned gem has been part of the community for decades, and it’s easy to see why locals and visitors alike keep coming back.
From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm, welcoming atmosphere that feels like stepping into a friend’s kitchen. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, treating every guest like family. Even on busy weekends, they go out of their way to make sure you’re comfortable and have everything you need.
The food? Simply phenomenal. The portions are huge, and everything is cooked to perfection. Their omelettes are fluffy and packed with flavor, and the breakfast potatoes are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The biscuits and gravy are some of the best I’ve ever had—rich, hearty, and made from scratch.
Some of my personal favorites: 🥚 The Santa Fe Omelette – perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. 🥞 The pancakes – light, fluffy, and big enough to share (but you’ll probably want to keep them all for yourself). 🍳 The Kitchen Sink Skillet – it’s got everything and is perfect if you’re extra hungry.
The only thing I would say i wish they had air conditioning it was a little...
