Alright, I'm a native of Portland, Oregon. I was born and raised here. I LOVE restaurants, and FOOD! This is the FIRST TIME we've been to any location of 'Biscuits Cafe'. We stopped at the McLoughlin Location. We were seated right away, that was fine. Choose anywhere. We did. I kept my jacket on, and said "It's cold in here." I'm echoing the last review on this. Then, to echo the last review once again, I said "They either need carpet in here, or some sound absorbing panels, because it's way to ECHO-Y in here." Waitress came over right away, and was okay friendly. Would you like anything to drink? "Yes, COFFEE" was my reply. Here's the deal -- my coffee came AFTER MY MEAL, and ONLY after I REMINDED THE WAITRESS ABOUT IT! I mean, seriously, WHO FORGETS COFFEE? In my book, coffee is a FOOD GROUP. The coffee was MEDICORE, and had something floating in it. I'm not sure if it was a toast crumb from my own mouth, or just came with the coffee. I ordered the Corned Beef Hash. It was real corned beef, not from a can, HOWEVER the flavor of it was so OFF that I didn't finish it. Finished the eggs over easy (poor to mediocre), the sourdough toast, the Marionberry jelly, the hashbrowns (poor). I'm so disappointed in Biscuits Cafe. We were at Safeway on King road later that morning. I had a maple bar and a large thing of pomegranate juice, and BOTH were better than my breakfast. I'm a breakfast guy. I LOVE FOOD. I'll never go back to ANY location of Biscuits Cafe. Sorry, NOT SORRY. The bill was $34. I normally tip well. I should have paid, because my wife left a $6+ tip that I thought was excessive given the circumstances. I indicated less than $4. There is another spot on McLoughlin that I've been to TWICE (Gramma's Corner). I have NO AFFILIATION with EITHER place. I can say this with no reserve -- "Gramma's Corner" DOES NOT DISSAPPOINT! Good lord. I am a tech guy. I've been online since online was a thing. I haven't done many reviews at all. This deserved it. OK, I'm going to give Gramma's Corner an EXCELLENT REVIEW....
Read moreMy first meal eaten IN a restaurant in 5 months, and it was at the newly opened Biscuits in Milwaukie/ Gladstone area. It was a good choice. I have eaten at the Biscuits in HV so I knew what to order. The corned beef hash is made on site and its moist, and a good size portion. My daughter had the cinnamon roll french toast, and it was delicious too. One thing about the menu that I did not remeber from the other Biscuits (maybe its new) is that they have a "simple" menu in the side bar that is basically an a la carte list of all their items from which you can pick 3 items- so a totally customized breakfast to your liking! I will try that next time.
More about the new digs.... its not as midern and cutsey as the Happy Valley location but we are Milwaukie, we are less fussy. This is likely a happy accident as it looks like they used the old faux walls and booth set up that was already here, which creates a nice safety wall between the booth rows which I liked for a germ barrier. They also have every other booth x'd off to prevent use and create space between tables. I alsonwithessed staff thoroughly wiping down the table, sides of table, booth seats and backs, etc. when a couple left. So it made me feel good about the cleanliness. They bring cream, sugar, salt and pepper in a cup at request, so let them know what you like and if you only need 2 sugars abd 1 salt packet because they Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should. have to discard the rest. The wait staff was super friendly and efficient, all wearing masks and gloves. So good job with training Biscuits!. Hopefully the decor and ambiance will grow and mature with the restaurant. So happy to have a new cafe in the...
Read moreHave been at this location at least 7-10 times, since it is geographically convenient for my friends to meet up at.
Our thoughts? They are SUPER inconsistent. Sometimes eggs and other items come out hot and fresh, but more often than not they are luke warm at best. I actually stopped ordering scrambled eggs entirely because every single time they were cold. Like, sitting out for an hour or two cold. It was pathetic!
Worse, maybe every week or four you get good service, but most of the time you get a waiter/waitress that shows up for the order, and then not again for 30-40 minutes. It is the worst service ever, and we are not picky!
Last time we were there, we arrived at 11:30am on the dot, and it took literally 45 minutes from being seated to ordering and receiving our food, which was not complex or special in any way. It was all breakfast stuff that takes maybe 7-10 min to cook at most! The prior time it was almost as bad.
And after all that wait, the food we received was poor to mediocre at best! The hash browns were burned orange/red, and tasted like caramelized cooking spray. (The horrible taste you get when you overcook things on your stove. It was disgusting.) My friends' over easy eggs were anything but over easy, and his hash browns were just as ruined.
Bottom line, I cannot recommend this restaurant or their chain at all. While you may get lucky, and 30-50 percent of the time your food will be good and delivered on time, 50-70 percent of the time it will be slow, cold, or otherwise gross. They should be ashamed...
