Perfect place to get your kafn (caffeine) fix. First off, love the play on words with the cafe name. Secondly, their coffee is delicious. I tried their iced maple latte and the espresso/milk ratio was on point. I really enjoyed the flavor of the maple - it wasn't too strong, but you could definitely taste it. It is on the sweeter side though. They offer other unique latte flavors, like salted caramel and vintage vanilla latte.
The space is pretty small and the tables are limited. I came on a Monday afternoon (around 2pm) and luckily the tables were empty. However, at a busy time, I'd expect it difficult to grab a seat to study/ sit down at. Also note, if you plan on studying or working here, the chairs aren't the most comfortable to sit on for a long period of time. I was a little disappointed that most of the pastries were gone by the time I got there. I wanted to try some of their unique ones, but all they had left were croissants- a regular one and a chocolate filled one. I got their regular croissant warmed up and it was decent- not bad, but not spectacular either. I would probably need to come in earlier to try one of their special pastries.
As for customer service, it's great. There was only one barista at the time and she was friendly. She even offered me and another table a sample of a chai latte that was left over from a previous order. Apparently they make their chai in house. It was good and I would consider ordering it next time.
They don't have a parking lot, but street parking was easy to find in the area. The only con about this place would have to be the price. Their lattes seem a bit overpriced and I wouldn't be able to come here on a regular basis. However, when I do feel like splurging, I wouldn't mind coming back to Kafn since they do in fact make...
Read moreI had high hopes as I pulled up on this little cafe. As I walked into this 1920s? building, I got a sense of cozy small town business. Immediately I saw a pour over station with 4 v60 ready to go. I noticed coffee beans from Unity and Onyx.....these were excellent signs! I choose a pour over using the Unity Pinto Bonito beans. Now this is train wreck started. The "barista" applied water to the filter but did not fully wet it. She placed the grounds in the v60 and poured rapidly a large amount of water to fill up the cone to almost the top, ie no bloom. They I realized she was not using a scale to measure water.. She went off to clean a counter and then came back for the second pour. After all the water passed through, there wasn't a flat bed of coffee grounds but a landslide with a sinkhole in the middle. Coffee had no taste, no flavor. I waited for it to cool down but it didn't help.....it was a terrible cup of coffee.
Professionals used their time and skills to produce these beans and to have them treated so irreverently by this person was a sad sight to see.
I don't know how the rest of the drinks were,, this was my first visit here. From their reviews it seems like they are doing something right. As for me, since the pour over was done so poorly, I won't be returning. Such...
Read moreI've been living in the neighborhood for 2 years now and go to this cafe every few weeks. Generally, the coffee is great. I love that they have pour overs as an option, great tea-based lattes, and fun seasonal drinks. The atmosphere of the shop is very cozy and the surrounding areas are pleasant. There is also often small product displays from local business/artists.
I don't like that they have discontinued the free coffee with coffee beans purchase (it is now a discounted drink). I feel like drip coffee should be free, or at least more heavily discounted.
Speaking of drip coffee, it is just patently bad if you get it during peak hours. Just don't get it. Almost every time, it tastes burnt and extremely bitter. During off hours, it tastes great.
The service was really great a year ago, but recently, I feel like it is not as good as it used to be. Sometimes it takes a while to get someone's attention even if no one is around and I have had to remind the person ringing me up to apply the coffee beans drink discount. Hopefully just flukes, since I only go...
