China Ocean — Restaurant in Gloucester Point

I do not recommend this restaurant. This was my first, and last, time here and my first impression upon walking in should have told me everything I needed to know. The place is a mess and is visibly not clean. Picture a truck stop bathroom that hasn’t been cleaned in a month that sells Chinese food. After seeing some positive reviews I decided to ignore my instincts and order anyways. I tried the beef/broccoli and egg drop soup. Let’s start with the soup, the flavor was okay but I had a hard time with the gelatinous consistency that flowed off my spoon like warm syrup. I was going to do the DQ blizzard test on the soup, it probably would have passed. The entree was the worst beef/broccoli I have tasted. The meat was so severely undercooked I’m surprised it didn’t jump when I poked it with my fork. The entire meal had a very strong shrimp/ seafood odor which I feel doesn’t compliment this meal…. I suffered and wasted $16 on a meal I threw away after three bites, you have been warned and can avoid this...

Quick and easy ordering. Found a menu on a website to place the order. Lady on the phone told me it was going to be 20mins and was ready when I got there in 20 mins. Friendly staff and apparently family operated. Food was pretty good, a good amount of food for the price and decent ratio of vegetables to meet and chicken. The general tao chicken was a bit over breaded and not spicy, but the spice could have been a lack of requesting it as the menu did indicate a non spicy version of it. We stopped by China Ocean on 06/30 on our vacation trip to the Yorktown Battlefield. The staff was very friendly. My son and I had Chicken Broccoli, which was very tender and delicious. My daughter had General Tso's Chicken w/o spice and she was very impressed with it. We were at William & Marry University yesterday for a afternoon campus tour.
