I gave this place a try because of the glowing reviews. When I arrived, there were a good amount of people waiting. For me that’s usually a good sign. The place is very small, I went up to the counter and the gentleman making platters greeted me and let me know he’d get to me shortly. I assumed the people waiting had already ordered but they had not.
It’s a unique experience. I felt like I was at my Uncle’s house waiting my turn to get my plate made. The gentleman taking orders and serving the food is very personable and they make you feel like family.
Now to the food. I had the oxtails, rice and peas and cabbage. I also got a side of mac. The oxtails were very flavorful and well seasoned, fall off the bone tender. I would order the oxtails again. I also enjoyed the cabbage, it had more flavor than I expected. The rice and peas were standard, not incredible but pretty good.
My only gripe was the macaroni and cheese. If you have experience with Jamaican restaurants you know the mac can be hit or miss. The thing about it is that the flavor of the mac was delicious. It was seasoned well and very cheesy, but it was kind of oily which let me know it was either made yesterday and/or preheated from cold quickly (likely both) in this scenario. To me mac is one of those items that have to be served fresh and if it had been it would’ve been really good. I ended up not eating it due to this reason.
Overall, I would come back again if I was in the area because of the great customer service and you can tell the food is made with love. I want to try some of their...
Read moreI’ll start by saying Jamaicans are the most critical of their cuisine because you know what it should taste like, so I assume all the 5 stars reviews are mostly from non-Jamaicans. Mama June’s is the third Jamaican restaurant in the Washington Township area I’ve visited since moving here in September 2021 and they have all been disappointing (The worse by far is on Cross Keys Rd, Sewell). The smell of the food walking into Mama June’s was amazing, so I anticipated excellence. Rather the Curry Goat, which came with two sides of vegetables (cabbage and green bean), I also ordered a side of Mac & Cheese (no rice) was very disappointing. The Goat was very salty, dark and swimming in gravy (stewy soupy consistency), my vegetables were over cooked and lacked flavor and the Mac and cheese looked really good, but once you get past the outer crusting of cheese it lacked cheese, flavor and the creamy consistency it should be. My review is three stars and that’s even a stretch based on the food, but I know running a restaurant is hard and reviews make or break establishments, so this is not intended to break this team, but rather to provide constructive criticism to help them elevate to what I know and they know our cuisine should be. Customer service is great, so I’m hoping they can improve the food...
Read moreI am sorry but this restaurant have treated me like family. I love the patties more than food. Their food is good. If you don't like it just dont go back. I read a review from a woman name Caya Lani. I really don't want to get into details because I was not there. Her review should be about the food. If you have a problem other than the food. It should be addressed with the owner not put on social media.
People tend to run to social media for the wrong attention. I have seen all the men that work at the restaurant they run jokes to lighten your mood. It's a Jamaican thing. Plus they are all married.
Some places you go and they don't even acknowledge you are there. At Mama Lunes Jamaican Grill it's a family atmosphere. So, sorry you felt the need to want to even involved the cops. It's not that serious miss. The owner is always there and he would of taken very good care of you and your daughter.
Your review is very offensive and should be removed. If you felt disrespected. Why didn't you handle it there and than. How can social media help you?. God don't like ugly. Wishing, you and your family...
