Just gorgeous! That’s how we’d describe our wedding cake and cupcakes from Source Bakery in Gloucester! From the moment we first tasted their offerings, we knew we were in for a treat. Julie and her staff are not only phenomenal bakers, but artists!

The wedding cake was beautifully crafted with fresh ingredients and adorned with beautiful seasonal flowers, perfectly reflecting our vision for our special day. Each slice was moist and flavorful with the vanilla and berry filling, and the layers complemented each other perfectly.

The cupcakes were a delightful and fun addition to our celebration, and they were a huge hit with our guests! The lemon curd cupcakes were refreshing and bright, bursting with citrus goodness. The vanilla berry flavor was a lovely mix of sweet and tart, while the chocolate espresso cupcakes offered a rich and indulgent experience that was simply divine.

Not only did Source Bakery deliver on taste, but their presentation was equally impressive. Each cupcake was beautifully decorated, with beautiful flowers and looked like they were right out of a Bon Appetit magazine spread.

Even if you’re not looking for cakes and cupcakes, Source Bakery is a charming and inviting establishment known for its artisanal baked goods and focus on fresh, local ingredients and delicious coffee. The décor features a warm and rustic ambiance, often with wooden accents and an open layout that allows customers to see the baking process.

The menu typically includes a variety of freshly baked breads, pastries, and sweet treats, all crafted with care and attention to detail. The bakery emphasizes quality over quantity, often showcasing seasonal ingredients and unique flavor combinations.

We love it here!

Biscuits are delicious - crusty outside and super moist and flavorful inside - and the egg sandwich is definitely a hearty portion! Staff, especially Kevin at the register, are super friendly. And, the coffee is usually great! (Sometimes the team brews it too watery, which is a shame when they are using the BEST beans ($25/lb Little Wolf beans out of Ipswich) but when they do not water it down, it is so yummy). Quiche I would argue is overcooked so I stick with the biscuits...

The only thing I would love to see is a more light, refreshing decor/interior of the bakery. I believe the owner is growing the business slowly, prioritizing the food and its quality over aesthetics, and so any kind of rehab is probably on hold while she continues to gain a following and revenue (this is my assumption...). BUT I hope she continues to grow and finds the resources (and the interest) to make it fresher inside. Do not get me wrong, the space is huge and spacious which is great, but when I think of the interiors of other bakeries I love (sandpiper, bonny breads, etc), Source has some work to do. I think even if she painted the walls a lighter color, replaced the tables with some interesting bistro tables and chairs (maybe even Parisian style ones!) that would make a huge...

How nice to see someone go into this beautiful space on Duncan St. There are several table set-ups and makes a great place to work remote for a few hours or meet a friend for a special treat.

What's even better is when you walk in, you are warmly greeted by a friendly staff ready to service you from their fresh showcase of baked goods. It smells amazing in there and it's hard to make a choice as you will want it all! From their incredible biscuits and biscuit breakfast sandwiches, to the best cinnamon rolls in town, to delicious fruit muffins, turnovers and mini pies...plus cookies and quiches too! I love how they change up the flavors of their fruit and vegetable items and also celebrate holidays i.e.: over St. Patrick's Day they made Guinness Meat & Potato pies (they were incredible).

Julie and Ashley are humble, and gracious at the outpouring of community support. I noticed yesterday they have been awarded. a co-op type grant that will allow them to expand into lunch, specialty coffee drink and perhaps open up the additional space they have - excited they have a nice vision for their business.

Congratulations on your success and all the best with your grant, posted here. Hoping you reach your...

Do you enjoy buttery pastry and jam? Would you like a sky-high cheddar biscuit, moist on the inside with a sweet little crunch on the outside? Could you use a crumble? Or a sea-salt-sprinkled chocolate chip cookie? We tasted love, butter, and fresh local ingredients in every bite of every treat from Source. If you have ever heard of Gloucester, you are close enough to plan a trip just for the baked goods. We did. We bought a box of goodies before hitting the beach, and we left the beach in time to buy more before heading home. Not beach-bound? The table space is cheerful and immaculate. So jealous of the Gloucester locals! I am still dreaming of the hand-pies.

I love Source Bakery! I do not consume coffee but I have heard only great things about it from my friends who do. What I love are their savory pastries/tarts. I have tried their pumpkin and goat cheese tart, mini pizza, spinach and feta triangles, and this dill cream cheese + pickled onion pastry and they were all absolutely scrumptious. They all use a flaky buttery pastry and their toppings are well-thought. I would highly recommend Source to anyone visiting Gloucester and looking for a quick bite.
