Absolutely atrocious service, the bartender (tall guy probably in his 30s with dark brown hair and tattoos on both arms) told us we couldn't order beers without checking IDs. I was ok with that, a little annoying but not a big deal, I'm 30 visiting my parents in CO and forgot my wallet back at their house.
It was at this point that things went south. He told my 55 year old dad that he had to check his ID but was ok with looking across the bar and out across the patio at my similarly aged mother and was totally fine pouring a beer for her. A little more annoying but still not the end of the world.
He then came out to the patio several minutes later to clear emply glasses. My dad had set his beer down on the table while he was standing talking to one of the other patrons. My wife and I were looking over the food menu when he saw my dad's beer on the table a foot or two away from my 27 year old wife. He then said this verbatim:
Bartender - "Your're not drinking that beer are you?"
Wife - "No...."
Bartender - "Good because if you were I'd have to kick you out"
He then walked back to the bar and after we looked around at each other in disbelief I picked up the beer and slammed it while he watched. Needless to say we left after that.
Note to the owner of this particular establishment, maybe hire servers with a little more tact and grace than this slack jawed, power tripping, swill...
Read moreWe stopped by here after a hike in Golden for lunch and a beer. We have been here several times before and know that we can rely on this place to have a good food truck. I like that they keep their website updated on what food trucks will be there on what days. But of course, this review is for the brewery, and they do have wonderful beers. We went early enough on a Friday, so it wasn't super packed with people. The person that helped us was super helpful and answered our questions about the beers. They had several choices of IPAs because, of course, they are popular. However, I was happy to find they had a Belgian Strong that was the best Belgian beer that I have had in a while. They always seem to have something for everyone here, so no need to worry about a limited beer selection here. Also note that this place is pretty large. There is plenty of inside seating, as well as a large bar. They also have a wonderful patio area which I also enjoy. We have been here several times when it was crowded, but due to the size of the place, it never felt like it was too crowded. All in all, this is a wonderful place to drop in for a beer anytime, but especially after a nice hike at one of the many nice...
Read moreCertainly setting a standard of good beer in Golden, Cannonball Creek has a nice tap room right of 93 coming into town from the North. With a wide selection of beer styles, there is something for every beer drinker to enjoy at Cannonball.
It's unassuming in a corner spot in shopping center. They have a nice outdoor patio set up and room for food trucks that come by daily.
This particular trip wasn't the best I've seen from Cannonball, some of their beers just fell a little flat on balance and strong flavor profiles. However, their golden strong and their session IPA (Trump Hands) were fantastic, as was there West Coast Red Ale. I usually am quite fond of their saisons, but they lacked the funk I was expecting. I believe we tried 11 different beers and there were still 3 or 4 on the menu we didn't get to sampling.
The staff here are truly spectacular, very willing to have a detailed discussion about their beer and to help you make some decisions.
All in all a great brewery that you should definitely check out if you're in Golden. This trip was really 3.5 stars but the beers in their past (and hopefully future) make up for the slightly less exciting experience...
