We ate at Thai Gold for the third time last night and were quite disappointed. I don't know if the Sunday night crew just isn't up to the normal level for this restaurant, or if things have just changed for the worse. I had lunch there a couple years ago when I was in Golden on business and I remember it as being quite good. Since then, we moved to Evergreen and about 6 months ago, we popped in for a late dinner and were quite pleased with the Pad Thai. Then, last night, we invited some friends to come with us, since they had never been, and we were quite embarrassed at the quality of the food. The "fishcakes" that we ordered as an appetizer were rubbery and tasteless, although the accompanying sauce was quite tasty. We were really hungry and ate them anyway, but they were definitely sub-par. My wife and I split the duck curry and once again, the sauce was very good, but the duck was overboiled and very chewy. One of our friends ordered the Pad Thai and let me taste it when she was disappointed with it. The Pad Thai tasted burned, or at least had an unpleasant aftertaste. When our waitress asked how everything was, I said "It's okay." She said "Only okay? What's the matter?" I let her know of our complaints, and admitted that it wasn't her fault of course (I hate it when people act as though it is the wait staff's fault that the food isn't good). She was very flustered and asked, "Can I do anything?" Well, seriously, I am not going to tell the restaurant how to run their business. If I have given a detailed complaint about how the food is not up to standard, the least they should do is send a manager over and it would have been nice if they had immediately offered to comp at least the fishcakes. Instead, she disappeared for a long time and then never mentioned it again. The fried banana and "snowball" deserts were very good. Overall, the sauces and deserts kept this from being a one or two star review, but I don't think we'll...
Read moreI am a long time customer of Thai Gold, their food is the best Thai food I've had in the Denver area. Particularly love their green curry. However, the last two visits I have had the same server and the service was downright atrocious. This last time, I brought two friends who had never been before. The food was fantastic as usual, but the service was flat out horrible. The curry that was brought out was spilled all over the table, and since it was outside at a mesh-metal-table, all over me, my shorts, legs and shoes. All that was done was an "I'm so sorry, are you okay?". I understand mistakes happen, I immediately reassured her that mistakes happen, I know it was an accident. However, nothing else was done to rectify this, no compensations, no additional napkins to clean up, NOTHING. Our table ordered several appetizers, and each our own entree. We all ordered spicy meals, and quicky finished our waters, they were never refilled, even tho I finished mine infront of our server. Even after the spill, extremely bare bones minimal service. It was apparent the rest of the section too received the absolute minimal service possible. Not sure I will continue bringing new customers here. Considering maybe take outs in the future, but I'm astounded with these...
Read moreWe were really excited to try Thai Gold, especially with all the raving reviews and after having their roasted coconut water drink and Thai tea.
Unfortunately, things quickly turned south when appetizers were brought out. -Calamari batter was thick and tasted like onion rings -Chicken satay was undercooked and rubbery -Duck cheese wontons had no duck in it, in fact, it tasted like a ham and cheese fried wonton -Fried tofu was the best, but that’s sort of hard to mess up All of these appetizers had a similar sweet and sour/salty dipping sauce.
We were informed of their 0-10 spice rating and anything over a 5 would be considered Hot. Well, that was a joke! 6 was not even close to Hot Cheetos spice level on their Pad Thai, it was just sweet and sour. Although I was impressed that the seafood in the Thai Gold Noodles were of higher quality the crabmeat topping was unimpressive. Basically, all dishes had a sweet and sour base and no other depth of flavors or umami.
Overall, learned my lesson not to trust Google reviews ever again. This is a cute spot- great for happy hour, drinks… and fried tofu. Anything else would be questionable if you have a palette that appreciates authentic Thai food...
