Eaten here a number of times. Food is fine enough and would be 4 stars if not for one thing: how cheap they are with the salsa. Not a self-serve salsa bar when you dine in, and when you take out they're even cheaper with the salsa.
Every time I eat there I ask for extra salsa - and it all gets consumed, none wasted - but they won't give it. I went so far to explicitly ask for as many as 20, and they wanted to charge me $10 for it! No freaking way I'm paying $10 for salsa after I just dropped $80 on food for four, so I just asked for the normal amount of "2 per item". So the gal gets me 8 salsa's, but they're not the mild kind (which we prefer). I say, "no, all mild please" and she said: "we only give 2 mild salsa's per order." So she gave me 5 mild salsa's total. I'm over here bartering for salsa like I didn't just drop good money on dinner!
To top all of that off I had to ask for chips and they mixed up the order and didn't add meat to one of the burrito's, or rice to another.
TO SUM IT ALL UP:
Food - 4 stars (not the best in town but good enough) Service - 2 stars (cheap with salsa and maybe you get checked on...
Read moreDelicious Mexican restaurant with a lively vibe and a full bar. Cash & credit cards accepted. Indoor and outdoor seating.
Very good Mexican restaurant. Crowd ranges from beach casual to a bit more dressed up. Relaxed but definitely several steps up from far more casual eateries, without feeling pretentious. Service is prompt and attentive. Extensive menu for both food as well as cocktails and drinks.
The Tacos Gobernador are delicious. Especially if you aren't starving for rice and beans on the side. Three thick tortillas layered with melted cheese, sauteed onions and pasilla chilis (not spicy) and two-three large shrimp each. Served with a small side of thinly sliced cabbage, some cucumber slices, a bit of guacamole and some lightly roasted salsa with a bit of heat.
Cocktails are impressive. Bourbon Old Fashioned is well-balanced and not skimpy. Havana margarita packs a powerful spice heat profile both from the chili rimmed glass and the habenero-infused tequila. Avoid this unless you like and can handle spiciness!
Highly recommended. They have heaters in case you're sitting outside on a...
Read moreGreat food, quality of presentation and service is top notch. I had Carne Campestre (well done) and the meat was juicy and tender. The vegetables were well cooked/grilled and perfect.
I love food from México, perhaps I am not too old (but bold/stupid enough) to find myself a 2nd mujer South of the Borders.
I'd clean dishes and she can do the cooking, clean la casita, feed the chickens, cows&goats, plow the land, keep an eye out for bandidos and bad hombres, do oil changes, gutters maintenance, fix the well pump, do taxes, perform Colonoscopies, and other duties as needed/requested.
Sorry no pictures to show, I was hungry.
01/19/2022 Update, "DIOS MIO!! the portions are noticeably smaller than on my last visit. I took pictures and you decide.
The prices were about the same, but not the amount of food. It felt like eating at a European Restaurant.
The flavors, freshness still there, but man when you eat Mexico's food you eat BIG servings, like the ones in Los Agaves in...
