Gilligan's Seafood Restaurant- Goose Creek — Restaurant in Goose Creek

When you walk in the door the interior is drab and outdated. Walking across the carpet it feels like you're walking across the floor of a movie theater. My shoes were actually sticking to the carpet. As far as the food all I can say is disgusting. I ordered a fried shrimp and clam strip platter with calamari. The only thing on my plate that was actually edible were the french fries that you could tell came out of a bag. My wife had fried shrimp and flounder. Her flounder was soggy due to either the oil in their frier not being hot enough or it sitting for to long after they cooked it. The shrimp was rubbery and over cooked with soggy batter. My daughter ordered the fish sticks with what they called cheesy grits. What they brought her was a bowl of cold malt-o meal with canned cheese soup mixed in. The only one who actually like their meal was my son who had the popcorn chicken, that tasted exactly like Tyson's chicken. I guess it's hard to screw up something that comes out of a bag and all you have to do is heat it up. Most of what they called sea food tasted bland or like it was frozen. You would think being as close to Charleston as they are they would actually serve fresh sea food. The only good thing I can say about the place was the wait staff. Our waitress was very friendly and did an excellent job. This is one place that I will definitely not be going back to. For what they charge I expect much better food. I go here 2 times a year for the past 4 years when on vacation in Charleston(Goose Creek Location) every June or July always had a good experience and food was always cooked to perfection the Manager who was there the times before was always Great ,service was also , my Brother and I went there on Wednesday June 12, 2024 at 4:30 pm sat Down preceding reading from Menu a in front the Waitress even commented that the prices for Seafood platter was a great deal for 18.00 so we ordered our meals from the menu got or food and the Calimari side for 14.99 which was not còoked thoroughly nor was shrimp , both greasy , eat our mealy Brother paid the bill as a gift for the occasion. 3 days, Saturday, June 15 ,2024 at 5:00 went again at to meet 4 of his friends to have Dinner, On the way there my Brother and I discussed how much he paid on Wednesday night, and I was shocked when he told me it was 100.00 because the menu We read from came to about 55.00 to 60.00 For 2 people, so when we sat down at the table on Saturday (6 people ) ask the same Waitress why it was so high on Wednesday night , she informed me that we were looking at the wrong side of the menu , she also put it on Me that we should have read at the top in small print Before 4pm Menu ,and Laughed at us, Not that she knew we were ordering from that menu and didn't inform us accordingly ,I will never return another one of there Restaurant's in Charleston sc again I see know why the restaurant in Goose Creek is...

Review based on a Saturday lunch, party of 10. Overall, Gilligan's is a great place. The staff are always friendly & personable, other customers who are dining will wave & say "hi" as you/they pass by - just a good atmosphere all around. Not especially gaudy, it's a "fine dining" atmosphere; it's a solid, family-friendly/party-dining place. My family has been many times for various little celebrations (one of my uncles absolutely loves this place) & I'm never upset about going.

This most recent visit I had the fried shrimp lunch. The fried shrimp are overall good, but I might like a crispier fry on the breading. French fries are good. Grits are always, always excellent (they're gritty & not creamy, which is how it should be!).

Be aware, as is becoming more common, they do charge a 3% transaction fee for debit/credit cards. However, they do put this notice up on the door so you can be aware before you go for a meal. I appreciate their up-front honesty about this, as opposed to leaving you wondering until you receive your bill.

Additionally, they charge a 20% gratuity for parties. But, again, they are transparent about this. A nice touch they add to the receipt that needs to be signed is an "additional gratuity" section where they make suggestions of an additional 2%-7% instead of being predatory about it or leaving it ambiguous.
