My wife and I have eaten here several times. I've been a few by myself as well. Anytime I'm craving a good Philly, this is the only place that comes to mind. Until yesterday. My wife and I brought her parents there for what we described as the best cheesesteak you'll ever have. Upon walking up to the store front, who I can only think was the manager was outside smoking. I didn't need to look at the menu, but the other 3 ppl in our party did, so I was watching when the smoker from outside came in. I watched her, as she walked over to the dish washing station, dipped her hands into dirty dish water, and then to the actual employee hand washing station, but only to use the paper towels to dry her hands. I started saying something to my wife about it, and while I was, the employee dried her hands with the paper towels, then used the same towels to blow her nose. She bundled it up and threw it away. She then proceeded to the counter to take our orders without proper washing her hands. My mother in law was ordering when my wife said, no mom, we're leaving, stop ordering. The place was not packed, and there was no need in the employee skipping such an important part of her job. This careless behavior in front of us only leaves my imagination to run wild about what kinds of unsanitary things are being done behind the scenes. I read on here a BUNCH of other reviews (after the fact) where customers experienced the same exact thing, which means either they don't give a s#!+, or they don't read their own reviews. A simple call to DHEC, or even to the news station might help them get back on track, and clean up their...
Read moreUPDATE: This is an update from my previous review. It's been 6 months now and I swear that the service and the quality of the food are even better. I ordered online, and by the time I got out of the car, the owner was already bringing my order out to me. The taste of the steak on the sandwich was amazing. Not only good quality meat, but seasoned so well.
I wish them MUCH continued success! I stopped going to this restaurant several years ago because of the inconsistency of the food quality and the awful service. I recently read that the owners of the Donut Connection next door had taken over, so I decided to give it another chance.
We ordered two of the Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches, and the flavor was nothing short of amazing. The new owner was there and heavily involved. Service was great. Was it a fluke? Was it because the owner was there? I wasn't sure.
Fast forward a month and we order from there again - same 2 sandwiches. This time the owner wasn't there. Now, if this is even possible, the sandwiches were even more incredible than the first time.
The meat is so flavorful and the veggies just add that little something extra. I may not be from Philly, but I know these are great sandwiches.
The staff was friendly, fast, and had big smiles on their faces, welcoming me in as soon as I opened the door.
All i can say is great job to the new owners and the staff!!!! You took a mediocre restaurant and made it fantastic. I wish you much...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to try Mrs. Doughnut for the first time, and I must say that their apple fritters exceeded my expectations. In my quest to find the perfect apple fritters, Mrs. Doughnut truly delivered. I ordered two apple fritters and a croughnut box featuring four distinct flavors: chocolate pistachio, hazelnut cream, pineapple crème brûlée, and strawberry and cream. The apple fritters were freshly baked and still warm when I picked them up. What struck me was the impeccable balance of apple to dough ratio, a rare find in most apple fritters. The combination of rich apple flavor and tender, crispy dough was absolute perfection, offering a delightful contrast of textures. The pineapple crème brûlée croughnut was equally impressive, capturing the essence of traditional crème brûlée while incorporating a subtle yet explosive pineapple flavor. Notably, the pineapple taste was remarkably fresh and devoid of artificial undertones, a testament to the bakery's commitment to quality. The croughnut's crunchy top, creamy middle, and airy texture all worked in harmony to create a truly exceptional pastry. While I have yet to sample the remaining croughnuts, the outstanding quality of the apple fritters and pineapple crème brûlée croughnut suggests that Mrs. Doughnut is a true gem. I highly recommend this establishment and look forward to my next...
