We, in the south, have all been to our fair share of Waffle House locations. Most of them are a great experience for anyone not from the south. This one is the exception.
I met my parents here for breakfast while we waited on Hurricane Florence to arrive. We were greeted with ants in the sugar, a dead roach on the window sill, and some kind of crust stuck to the table. When confronted about ants in the sugar, the waitress argued "they're only on the outside" and proceeded to wipe them off with a towel that had shades and hues of brown and black as if it had been rescued from the void beneath the grill. We drank black coffee We were hungry and there werent many places left open so onward we persisted.
We ordered our drinks, then our food. Around an hour later, we all received the wrong orders....twice. My mother requested a waffle to be delivered to-go after her meal. She received it first, on a plate. Without a word she nibbled at it with contempt for a seemingly careless waitress. An order of a chicken biscuit was delivered as an egg buscuit. My chili-cheese ommlet was delivered as a ham and cheese minus chili.
We didn't say much to the waitress other than correcting the orders because they were busy so we were slightly understanding. Nonetheless, while the mismatch orders and flat out wrong items served can be overlooked when given the outright onslaught of business they were working around, the filthiness of this location can not be excused.
I absolutely love Waffle House. I grew up on it, had great high school and college memories there, as most of us have. It's part of the culture here. But this location needs work. A lot of work.
There's a new location just a few miles away on Red Bank road by the Naval Weapons Station. I highly suggest you go the extra distance for a clean atmosphere....and a staff that doesn't fold under pressure.
Get it...
Read moreOur local Waffle House is the best of all Waffle Houses. There are many like it, but this one is ours. The staff is great, always working in harmony and always friendly and enthusiastic. As the world has shut down for storm prep, hubby decided we should get WH breakfast this morning. Along with most of Goose Creek, apparently. It was the place to be at 9:30, and by the time we left about an hour later, it was getting even more packed despite quick turnover.
They were serving a Limited Menu this morning due to the need for efficiency, and were running a quick, tight assembly-line-style system that kept food flowing to the stream of hungry mouths. Eggs? Scrambled. No special orders today. Hash browns? You can have cheese, no funny stuff. No steaks, no omelets. The kids can still get chocolate chip or blueberry waffles, so there's something for everyone. No complaints from anyone, as we were just grateful they were open for us. A gentleman waiting for his food called the restaurant to attention to publicly thank the staff for their service, and we all gave them a round of applause, and hopefully huge tips. We definitely did.
All Waffle Houses are great, consistent in what they do, but it is the people that make them special. Our location has the best crew, and we hope WH corporate appreciates them and rewards them sufficiently to keep them around. Thanks for being the port...
Read moreSo the server was very kind and attentive and I hate it for her that I'm now leaving a bad review. It's not your fault, darling! Also, maybe it's because we came at lunch hour and not our typical 3:00am waffle run that it was so bad? Not sure, but here goes... DO NOT sit in the booth by the kitchen door and bathrooms! The smell is overwhelming and horrible and will make you too nauseous to enjoy your meal. I'm pretty sure the worst of it was coming from the kitchen because every time an employee whizzed by a fresh wave of toxic air set upon us. On top of that, the table was so dirty that before our food arrived I had to go wash my hands all the way up to my elbows where I had leaned against it when I sat down. Gross. The place was packed and the air conditioner clearly could not keep up with the midday heat and the crowd. I love Waffle House, so this whole experience was pretty disappointing. This review is not meant so much to disparage this store, but in the hopes someone in charge might take note and remedy the problems. It did not live up to the standard of any other Waffle House I've ever been in (and as my husband says, that's not a high bar) so if you eat here, don't think all Waffle Houses are this way. I guess with so many of them there are bound to be a...
