Had such high hopes for this place only to be disappointed. The greeting, as you walk in, is very friendly and informative on how the place works. You get seated, look over the menu options, then you walk up to the bar to place your order instead of being waited on. We took these steps easily. Ordered 2 cocktails, cheesy bread, and garden state pizza. We waited and waited to get our drinks so we ended up going to the self serve water counter to have anything to drink. The cheesy bread came out first, fairly quickly. This was by far way better than the pizza. It was actually quite delicious and not burnt at all. We finish the bread, still no cocktails at this point. We waited about 25 minutes in total and the pizza came out, still no drinks and we recieved a burnt pizza. Those who know what a pizza should look like, knows the oven was not clean and had burnt flour in it (pictures for reference.) Hubby took the pizza back and let them know this is not worth the price we paid and it's too burnt to eat. The staff was very apologetic and went to remake the pizza meanwhile we finally recieved our drinks. The drinks were top notch but not worth a half hour wait. One of the owners showed gratitude for our patience and comp us with a $25 gift card only because we prepaid instead of opening a tab. Very thoughtful I supposed if you don't know how to reimburse yet. The staff and owners were very polite and good hearted but that isn't enough for us to ever return. They walked around cleaning up and asking customers questions but they also had beers in hand too. When the second pizza came out, it was burnt still, on the under side, from flour. The picture is the second pizza so you can only imagine how much more burnt the first one was. I only had one bite and that's all I could taste.. if that's them trying to do better, then I won't be returning to pay a price that high for slow service and burnt food. If those issues can be addressed and corrected properly, they will flourish. Maybe in a year we'll give it another shot but very doubtful. Edit to add: there's a difference between charred pizza and an unclean oven with burnt flour stuck to the bottom. Also, we left the gift card so it could be used for someone who would actually use it instead it being wasted or sitting in our wallets to not be touched. Hopefully it was gifted to the next person as a kind gesture. Leaving it was not meant to be an insult. We recognize how kind and thoughtful the owners...
Read moreWent tonight because we had heard some good things about the place for it being new.
We arrived and went inside. Fairly busy which can be a good sign and was greeted by the employee as we approached. New place, new experience, let's see what they have to offer.
They asked if we were dining in or doing to-go which since they had no seating left, our choice was to-go. I got a Caesar salad and a slice of cheese pizza and my wife got 2 slices and we ordered the breadsticks.
Food plus tip came out to a little over $47 which was pricey but again let's see how our food comes.
She gave us a number and we sat by the entrance. The building is extremely warm and noisy, but taverns can be that way, but for waiting it was slightly uncomfortable.
We only had to wait a few minutes to get our pizza slices and were told the salad and breadsticks would be out from the kitchen in a few minutes.
25-30 mins go by and we had to ask where our food was. We were told they were extremely busy and it should be out shortly. Another 5 mins goes by and they bring out our food on plates... The employee asks us if they were to-go which we said yes visibly frustrated and a few more minutes goes by and they bring the food back out in to-go containers.
The picture of the salad I posted was $12 and it fit in our kids bowls once we got home. Definitely nothing to write home about and over priced. Not even sure if it's made in house or just bagged.
Overall I did not enjoy the place and wouldn't recommend. I hope they get everything down to a T so it flows better. If they are busy and someone orders slices and something that needs to be made in kitchen the staff should ask whether we want everything together or as they are ready. Our pizza was cold by the time everything else came out and was...
Read moreHaving moved back to the area after living in Chicago for several years, I was hopeful that The Fold would be a step up from the "usual" area pizza places. I wanted to like the place; I really did. However, when you're charging the same prices (in ...Goshen) that I was paying at Lou and Gino's East, that's the bar that you've set for yourself. With that in mind, The Fold fails miserably.
Have you seen the picture on their website where the pizza sticks straight out? When I did that, it essentially dropped 90degrees just past the fingers. You also couldn't have asked for more grease it you'd tried, which is generally the result of poor-quality cheese. The dough was just there, neither airy nor tavern-style crisp, and the sauce really didn't have any flavor.
It's not a destination pizza place like Italian-style Venturi's and Antonio's. The Fold also prices itself out of being the place where you go when you need a few pizzas for the game because it's simply not good enough to justify paying $10-$20 more than from a place like Lassus/Elmo's. Again, if you charge Chicagoland prices, you'd better have Chicagoland quality. I cannot tell you how much I was hoping that I would like this place.
I tried to think of a pizza-quality comparison afterwards and it hit me - More Expensive Enzo's. MUCH more...
