Here is why Don Coyote loves Universal Tamal. Wife and I arrive in a quaint, well maintained and alive downtown Goshen and park on main street right across from Universal Tamal. A little walk down the sidewalk and across the pedestrian crossing lands us very near the front door of the restaurant. This little walk is a wonderful way to approach the restaurant. Entering we choose our own seat (which I like) and are soon helped by a very pleasant waitress or waiter. With chips, salsa and an Horchata we study the menu tempted to branch out from our usual order. After ordering our usual (we really are going to branch out one of these days) we sit and talk while waiting for the food. The atmosphere is really nice with a good crowd, the size of the restaurant is perfect, the lighting is nice, windows, plants and people picking up take out. The food arrives and for me a plate of talapia tacos, beans, rice and a tamale or two is the usual. The fish tacos are great with fresh squeezed lime and a little salt. The fish is cooked perfectly. The Mrs has similar but meat tacos instead of fish. We enjoy a relaxed peaceful meal and social time. Afterwards I go to the register to pay for the very reasonably priced meal. I really prefer this as it removes any rushed feeling we sometimes get at other restaurants. No rush at Universal Tamal. The emailed receipt is great. Lists everything including what meat was on the tacos. We leave full and happy with maybe a walk over to the book store, the coffee shop or just a stroll down the sidewalk. I think we...
Read moreThis restaurant is the real deal. Omg where do I start. Very clean, welcoming environment. Tv, spacious seating, booth or table. The hostess was very polite and attentive. Now to the food. The menu has the most pocket friendly prices. I mean you can get a meal with chips & salsa for $7.99. The lunch specials are all day long. I mean this is awesome Mexican cuisine. The meats were all flavorful & tasty. They’re known for their tamales, but every dish I had was a 10!! This is my new go to for Mexican food. The rice, flavorful. The beans, flavorful. The salsa, flavorful. Nothing is missing. I hate bland foods. Why cook if you don’t put your heart & soul into it, right. This restaurant is it! Whoever is cooking, I just love you!! I recommend you try their “deep fried tamales” yes, deep fried, they’re delicious and perfect. The meats, I love Al Pastor-pork, and Birria. The Birria is omg out of this world. I’ll be eating here at least 2-3 times a week. I don’t ever eat desserts, ever. I tried the Churros and they’re so delicious, nice crunch...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible place to order food from. We placed an order on GrubHub. They acknowledged order and delayed it almost immediately. Said it would get to our house between 8:35 and 8:45. We spent 83.00 on food from them. Then... at 8:36 pm, they canceled our order. 24 minutes before our kids need to go to bed, with no food prepared as an alternative, they cancel the order. GrubHub reported that they went to the restaurant to pick it up, and they were closed. I ask you to NEVER order food or go to this restaurant. They are a joke of a business. Reading their other reviews, they always screw up your order or delay it, and I cannot even leave a nasty review on GrubHub because the order was canceled. So there are probably a lot of people in my same situation. Avoid this place at all costs! Goshen has too many nice restaurants for us to continue going to the nasty ones...
