China Cafe is a prime example of a American-style Chinese Buffet, and I'd argue it gives you more than you pay for. Expect good buffet food, prompt service, and a clean (if weathered) atmosphere all at a great price!
The food was generally really good for a buffet. Yeah, that means it wasn't "fresh out the kitchen" fresh or highly, highly seasoned, but it was tasty and generally kept at a good temp. They had a decent selection, while I wouldn't say any one dish was a specialty, they did have plenty of staples (various chicken and pork dishes, rice, noodles, sushi, etc.). While they didn't have anything I'd write home about, I'd happily return and pay a similar price.
The service is prompt, but it can feel impersonal if you're not familiar with Chinese buffets. You walk in, get seated, and you'll probably not talk to another server until it's time to pay. They simply collected empty plates and refilled my drink when I got up for another plate. However, the interactions I did have were friendly and welcoming. I don't have any complaints, but other reviews seem to view this as a problem.
Finally, the atmosphere did feel a bit generic. (If you've been this type of a buffet, you know what to expect.) However, it was clean and calm. The only real downside is that it felt a weathered, with my table having some damage to its veneer. However, none of this really detracted from the food or dining experience.
The best part is that my adult buffet was only 12 bucks and some change. Great quality (and quantity) for the price! I will...
Read moreWhen you live in a smallish town like Granbury and you've spent a good part of your life living in Asia, you're going to have a hard time when you get the hankerin' for some Chinese Food. You might think Panda Express fits the bill, but you'd be wrong. That's not Chinese Food, my friends, but that's a review for another day.
China Cafe is big. There are many tables so you will never wait. The wait staff is generally attentive and ensure that our water glasses are full all the time. The bathrooms have toilets and urinals. The bananas with the unknown red sauce are present, which seems to be a mandatory requirement for all Chinese buffets. Their spoons hold soup. I mean, I could go on forever about all the good things about this place...
But MOST importantly, the wait staff have been carefully trained (probably for hours and hours) to not take a patron's special handmade dipping sauce when they go back for seconds. Kudos to whomever the head trainer is. Well done, sir (or madam). Well done.
Oh, but the food really isn't...
Read moreChina cafe I have lived in the Granbury area for almost 15 years. My family and I only went in every so often. Once the new owners took over my family and I now go into China cafe almost ever other Sunday and sometimes during the week. Once I had asked if they would make me a plate of supper some veggies for my baby. Now every time we go in they bring out that same plate without us having to ask. This has been such a blessing just knowing that they are more then happy to serve their customers to there specific needs. It is such a relief to knowing that they have something and are willing to serve their smallest of customers. For my self it’s very nice to know there is a restaurant that I can go to with my baby and they have something for him to eat. If we every found anything wrong with food or would like more of something they are more then happy for fix more for everyone. I have once found any of the food cold or over cooked. For my family and my self we are more then happy to come back and bring friends and...
