I thought this was just an issue with the store in Madison Heights, Mi, but apparently it may be with the ingredients, and how they are used or preserved. The main issue is a taste that has a slight spoiled meat tinge to it. It is very apparent after the pizza begins to cool down. I thought the pizza I got degraded way too fast. I bought a 3 item hand tossed (pepperoni and double mushroom) large carryout special, It was two minutes from finished when I got to the store, so I got it hot out of the ovens. Domino's uses air impingement ovens for consistency and the cook was fine.
It took 24 minutes for me to get to my hotel in Coopersville, and the pizza was nearly cold and starting to get very dry by that time, which I thought meant there was not enough moisture in the crust. The crust itself was bland, not sweet enough for a hand tossed crust, but still OK as far as franchised pizza places go. The main issue was that taint. I felt like something had spoiled and it was the exact taint I tasted twice before in Madison Heights, from the Domino's there. I generally order pepperoni with most of my pizza's and I remember removing them in Madison Heights, to improve the taste.
I'm unsure because I did not observe the making of the pizza in the store, but it is possible Domino's gets their pepperoni pre-cut and the freshness is lost in the storage of this before use. If this is the case, it's unfortunate that taste has fallen by the wayside for convenience once more. How little effort to just pre-slice enough pepperoni or other meats fresh in the store daily to keep the quality of taste up. Another thing that is just tolerable by me is Domino's pizza sauce. I think they know that small market pizza places will generally have a little bit of a bite to their sauces. This is true, but most of the time that comes from a blend of Italian herbs and spices, not pepper, and I believe Domino's does this with pepper, and too much of it. Their salt balance was fine which is at least one good thing. The mushrooms had a slight issue, given the time through the air impingement oven is fast, they are slightly thick for a proper cook, slice them thinner and use the same weight, it will look like you get more and they'll taste better.
For me I could only heat up in the microwave and manage to eat about half the pizza. I trashed the remainder. A day old Hungry Howies pizza I reheated for lunch on Tuesday was was much better. I can only guess that people are rating this place based on the chicken and sandwich items and not so much on the pizza. I doubt I'll go to this or any other Domino's any time soon. I had high hopes from the average of the other reviews, but until you get in the triple digits on review numbers, you have to take the consensus with a grain of salt anyway. Not recommended for pepperoni or hand tossed pizza. Maybe the pan is better, but I suggest get a ham and pineapple or a chicken, stay away...
Read moreOrdered delivery at 10:21, was told 20-30 minutes... Didn't come until 11:33. I wasn't upset about time, as I understand that things happen. I noticed on the app that my food was checked for perfection at 10:33. Keep in mind, I called at about 10:55 to ask if my food was going to be fresh. Anyway, this means my food just sat under a heat lamp for 40-45 minutes. When it got to me, the specialty chicken was cold and the sandwich bread was dry... Disappointed to say the least that when I called again and I asked why my delivery order was made so soon before a driver was available, that that is how they always do it. They don't time out orders to be available when a driver is actually there to take the delivery. They just make them and the order sits until a driver is there. The manager did offer to replace my order, but I wasn't going to wait an hour. I'm posting this because they did not understand why they would time out a delivery order to come out of the oven when a driver was actually there to take it. Food under a lamp will keep food...
Read more♿ I have ordered both carryout & delivery from this store.
The delivery service has always been reliable. The pizzas have always been hot, correctly made, and on time.
When I have ordered carryout, there is a wheelchair van accessible parking space and a ramp to get to the door, however the door is manual only, so it's a bit difficult to get in and out with a pizza, using a wheelchair.
Fortunately, the people at this store are very accommodating. When I have gone inside the store, someone has always come out to hold the door for me. I always order online or through the app, so the order is already paid for. There have been a few times when the store wasn't busy, that someone has walked the order out to my car.
The only reason I gave 4 stars out of 5, is because I order gluten-free and there are never any coupons that apply. The gluten-free crust is only available in the small size and it's at a premium price. Without coupons, it is very pricey. I sure hope they find a way to provide the gluten-free product at a more...
