This is a late review. But we frequent the restaurant enough to call it an on time review.

Let's be real. If you live within 20 minutes of this place, you've heard of it. It really is a popular spot.

Delicious food, and even better coffee. Coffee is never strong enough for me when I go out, but the coffee here at Morning Star does not disappoint. Neither does the food.

The food is consistently delicious and the portions are more than plentiful. I've had different dishes here and all were great. The fare is more Southwest - beans, pico, avocado, burrito, tortillas, etc. They also have a decadent stuffed french toast. I think the filling is a sweet cream cheese with strawberry sauce over top. The plantain crepe is fantastic too, but I'm pretty sure they use regular bananas not plantains.

During our most recent trip, my son had the cinnamon roll. It was almost the size of his face!

So despite all the rave reviews on the food and coffee, why the 4 stars? Service/servers. The one inconsistent thing is the servers. Some days you get one that is fabulous, some days you think someone was helping you, you just don't know who, because you've seen them 2 times, to take your order and drop off the bill (someone else brings your food). Some days you get a great server, some days they may not be in the mood to be there and it shows. Some days you get showered with attention, some days they could care less about you (or at least that is how it comes across)

So for that, I knocked a star off. But do come and try it out. Because when they are on, they are totally on. And when they are not. At least the food...

Great little spot outside of the hustle and bustle of Grand Haven and off the main drag. Older part of Grand Haven for sure as most of the buildings are dated.

Our family visited this place on a Saturday morning, which also happened to be the first day of the Coast Guard festival. We arrived around 0830 and we're seated promptly. I did notice it was a bit crammed in here once it started to get busy, and did it get busy, plan ahead or call beforehand!

We had a rather large party of 11. Our waitress, Carla, did a fantastic job and was very attentive to our wants and needs. We had 5 kids with us. They do have daily specials and she read them off to all of us.

We ordered a variety of drinks, they do serve alcoholic morning beverages like mimosas, Irish coffee, Palermo etc if you're into that. The food was awesome! Everything seemed to be homemade, hot and fresh. We ordered x4 cinnamon rolls before our food came out and it was probably the best cinnamon roll I've ever had. Once again, our party ordered a variety of breakfast foods.

I personally had the Egg & Sammy sandwich which I added hollandaise sauce to and it was awesome. I did try my wifes stuffed French toast that had cream cheese and raspberry drizzle, once again probably the best I've had. My father-in-law had the biscuits and gravy with over easy eggs on top, this was delicious and a hit. My brother-in-law had the chorizo hash, he said it was spicy but good.

All-in-all, great place to start your day and have a good breakfast. Parking can be a bit difficult on busy days and dont forget to plan ahead...

I love morning star cafe’s food, especially that cinnamon roll, but they’re not “lunch break” friendly and they definitely gotta get it together in the customer service department. I tried to place a carry-out order over the phone for myself and a co-worker. The order was for two meals and two desserts. I was put on hold for four minutes before the woman came back to take the order. Instead of asking how I wanted my eggs prepared, she asked “anything else” and asked it after every item I tried to order. Once I finished, I asked if she could postpone it to be ready an hour later, so I could pick it up on my lunch break at 2:00pm. I already feel bad for picking an order up within a half hour of them closing, so I try to get in & out as quickly as I can. She rudely told me they could not (even though they’ve done this for me before) and that I would have to call back. I asked her what time I would need to call back for everything to be ready for me to pick it up and she said “it takes two seconds to put a piece of pie in a container. call when you’re on your way” so I asked about the rest of the food we wanted, she said “oh you want all of this at the same time? Call back at 1:30” and disconnected the line. Idk if she’s stressed, new, high, or all three...but common sense tells you that someone placing a carry out order is gonna want everything they order to be ready at the same time. We ended up placing an order somewhere that lets you schedule...

The food is excellent unfortunately the place is extremely loud and cramped, especially in the entrance and waiting area. Sound dampening materials seem appropriate due to the volume in this place. They told us 10-15 minutes for a table ended up being more like 35 minutes, and they say your name, first inside, then outside. Notice I said say not yell, because that's what they should have been doing. Seems a little archaic for the times, maybe just add a cell line for the business for $20 and use it to text people when they're table is ready. That way everyone isn't trying to cram into the what I guess is a waiting area without almost being run over multiple times because of guest's, servers, hosts and hostesses, and busboy's! Also people could shop outside at the shops and not stand outside or try to sit inside while waiting.

We had breakfast here after a weekend of camping. I wanted to try something other than my normal breakfast fare of eggs toast and hashbrowns. We arrived at this cute and quaint little cafe just before the crowd. There were literally people waiting outside to be seated. I ordered the Raspberry Stuffed French Toast (half order) and my husband got the Egg Sausage Patty and Roasted Potatoes with Rye bread. Our server was very nice and helpful. He knew the menu and was kind enough to let me know that I could get a half order. The menu is extensive and the portions are plentiful. It's a small place and fills up.fastbut it's well worth the wait. There are two really nice book stores nearby. One is right next door and the other is around the corner. Both are worth a look see.

Morning Star Cafe is a cozy, Southwest US themed Cafe with a varied assortment of breakfast and lunch items ranging from eggs to tacos. Overall, the food is great, good service, and I now consider as one of my favorites! Bonus for locally sourced ingredients (breads and muffins) and in-house made chorizo! One gripe: The fruit bowl is the weakest link, I recommend another side over what you can get at most gas stations. Say "yes" to the cinnamon roll! If you're willing to take on the extra calories, it's absolutely worth it! Note: If you like spicy and request a spicy sounding item like the four corners omlette, do yourself a favor and ask for extra peppers when they cook it. The Habenero cheese is delicious but not at all spicy!
