Whitey's — Restaurant in Grand Island

I felt the need to update my review of Whiteys because I became confused as to the hours of operation at this establishment. The door says the place is open until 1am, their website and Google says they are open until 11pm, but on more than one occasion, when I stop by for a drink and food later in the evening, they are closed, the most recent occasion was yesterday evening (Wednesday) at 9:40pm...the place was dark and door locked, although I could see a couple employees in there cleaning up. After talking with fellow patrons at another bar about this, I was informed that it's common practice for Whiteys to close early [most nights] and for the employees to send customers elsewhere (Balz, in particular)...not a good business practice.

When they are open, the food is tasty. I enjoy coming here for lunch on Wednesday, where their special is French Dip or Philly Cheesesteak for $6.95; their bacon potato soup...

I really like this place, the staff was very friendly and helpful to your needs. I had a chef's salad with blue cheese dressing, my wife had chicken quesadilla with buffalo sauce, my sister in law ordered a full notcho's, she also ordered chicken garlic quesadilla. I will say everything was really good. Our drinks were 2 red bud light, 2 bloody Mary which were awesome. I asked for something made with Skyy Vodka. Something different and off the wall. Well I will say the bartender came through phenomenally. I have no idea what the drink was called but it was good. Ask them to make something you don't expect, believe me you'll be impressed. My husband and I went to Whitey's tonight thinking that the special was beef and noodles over mashed potatoes, we have had the beef and noodles before and it was delicious. Tonight's special was chicken fried steak or chicken fried chicken. He ordered the chicken fried steak and I ordered the chicken fried chicken. They both were delicious.
