I would not recommend this place to anyone, especially people of color. When me & my family walked in, we were immediately led to the back of the restaurant to sit, however we told them we would like to sit elsewhere. We were the only group of African Americans in the restaurant, and to be led straight to the back while passing many empty sitting areas was beyond disrespectful. After being seated and having our orders took, everyone's food was then brought to the table except for mine and I was told "We don't have anymore grits", mind you everyone else had sides of grits and I ordered fish & grits. After I expressed numerous times I didn't want to eat anymore due to numerous reasons, the waiter kept suggesting to replace the side . After I just accepted to replace the side with cheese eggs, my plate was brought out with my fish & one egg with cheese thrown on top. At this point, my mother has recognized the disrespect & lack of care from this restaurant for us and told them to take the food back. The waiter then grabbed her manager and presented the situation as if I had a problem with the food instead of them not having what I ordered, then giving me scraps. So as we're discussing with the manager our issue we mentioned the one egg with cheese and he replied with "That's two, not one" as if it mattered. Eventually they took the food back & never apologized for the inconvenience. I would not recommend this restaurant, horribleeeeee service. 0/5...
Read moreStopped by Theo's when we were in the area. Looked at reviews and it seemed to stand out. So we figured we'd check it out.
The parking lot was pretty full, which seemed like a good sign. I'd say the tables were maybe half full, so we got a table immediately.
The place has been around a while and hasn't been updated. The crowd in the place seems a little older as well.
The service was good, though less than enthusiastic. The staff didn't seem terribly energetic and I didn't see many smiles.
I will say their tea is strong, which I like, but may not be for everyone. We got an appetizer of fried pickles and mushrooms, bit of which were actually really good. Best part of our meal.
Next was the entrees, which is where things go south. I asked our server what is most popular. She said it was the chicken fried steak, so I ordered that. We also ordered the tex-mex lasagna, because it sounded interesting.
Now, the chicken fried steak was beyond disappointing. Definitely seemed like a cheap, frozen steak. I got the okra with it, which was fine, but also out of a bag. The gravy was just ok. I ate, but can't say I enjoyed it.
The tex-mex lasagna was basically a taco salad in another form, with just a touch of lettuce, but it was also just ok.
All in all, this is not a place I'd go back to. Maybe they have awesome breakfast or something, but not the...
