TLDR: A cute little shop and restaurant inside the downtown market with indoor and outdoor seating and delicious wine and charcuterie.
We started off with a glass of wine: we ordered the the fableist wine co edna valley, ca chardonnay (lemon | pear | cream |hazelnut) and the domaine du salvard loire valley, france 'unique' sauvignon blanc (juicy peach | fresh zippy minerality). I don’t generally love a chard, but I had a couple sips and it was actually quite lovely. My Sauvignon Blanc was tasty too, and paired well with the
CHEESE &CHARCUTERIE- a hand-selected plate with field & fire bread and accompaniments to match. We ordered the MONGER'S CHOICE: five total cheeses and/or meats, and since we were in no hurry, and enjoyed the first board so much, we ordered a second. There are multiple pictures but the first three are of the first board and the last picture is of the second board. (It wasn’t as pretty in my opinion, so I didn’t take great photos of it 😝). Both were well presented, had delicious assortments of cheeses (and meats as well, though I didn’t eat them), and I loved the cornichons, mustard and sweetie drop peppers.
We enjoyed a second glass of wine with our second board: We each ordered a glass of the gulp hablo! orange - Spain - verdejo & sauvignon blanc (unflitered & racy | pithy citrus | underripe peach) and it was LOVELY! And different from anything I’ve had before.
Inside is quite chilly, so we enjoyed sitting outside while the weather was nice this summer. The only draw is the location- because of the proximity to the highway, there’s a lot of traffic noise, billboards, etc, but the fountain out front does help to drown out a bit of it. Despite that, I’d like to return again next summer ☀️ and I’d recommend that you...
Read moreVery disappointed in my most recent transaction there. Bought bresaola (cured beef) on New Years Eve for a charcuterie board. Cost was $38.80. Got home and the use by date on the price tag said December 19. Attempted to return the product, with the receipt, and was told their use by date isn’t the real use by date and it’s good for 15 days after that date. They would not refund my money and I’m out the $38 now. One person asked if I had kept it in the car and suggested it was probably still good. That’s not good food safety. I’ve had great experiences every other time but will no longer purchase meat products from them. Most likely will not bother going back as there are many better alternatives (Cheese Lady, Martha’s Vineyard, Etc) that I have never had this issue with. Should mention I initially tried to return the product on Jan 6 but they were closed...
Read moreThis is our favorite spot at the downtown Grand Rapids Marketplace. First off, they have a great wine selection and reasonable prices, then they have this constantly evolving menu of tasty cheese creations that are just perfect. They are one of the "anchor" spots at the downtown market (Social, and Sloe's BBQ are also there), but they have the best outdoor seating area and stay open later than the market so even though the market closes earlier, Aperitivo stays open so you can enjoy a meal, wine or whatever kind of snack you are hungry for. One of the neatest parts about Aperitivo, is that you can order food from an inside vendor and then tell them you will be sitting at Aperitivo having wine and they DELIVER right...
