They might have amazing baked goods, I wouldn't know. I looked all over online for a place that carried lemon cheesecake for my birthday. I found this place and they had a lemon blueberry cheesecake listed. When I got there all they had ready was bread, muffins, etc. The girl at the counter (she was very nice, by the way) explained that their cheesecakes (and many other items) were by order only. Wonderful. That was not at all made clear on the website. I told the girl as much, and she sighed and said she heard that a lot, and she was sorry but she wasn't in charge of the website. She also said she'd told the owners about similar feedback already, but nothing changed. Big shocker, owners not listening to the workers. Anywho! They told me the store on the corner carried some of their baked goods and might have some cheesecake. So I walked over there, and they didn't have the flavor I wanted, so I just got a "plain" cheesecake (it had a lot chocolate sauce, whipped cream, cherry and sprinkles). When I got home, I ate it. Or tried. The cherry tasted like a pickle. That's not right. But I thought maybe it was not something to worry about. The cheesecake tasted old and like refrigerator. Only the very middle of it tasted good. So yeah. Birthday adventure for cheesecake totally ruined. Fix your website so people know. Don't let the store next door keep product so long it tastes like it's going bad. I had such high hopes. Very disappointed. At least they places were cute, clean, and had very...
Read moreI was so excited to stop here after having surgery on December 14th. We wanted to get some local gifts for our friends and families. We purchased 2 loaves of bread, 4 pies, 2 croissants and 2 cookies. I couldn’t have been more excited. We delivered each pie when we returned home. I was so embarrassed 😳 to have a slice with one of the recipients and learn of the bizarre consistency of a blueberry pie; similar to a fig Newton. The pecan pie would pull away from the top layer and stay intact to the next piece but the underneath ingredients would pull away normally. The Cherry pie was similar to the fig Newton. I tried to contact the bakery directly and they never returned my phone call or email inquiry. I thought perhaps we got a bad batch or maybe some that should have been pulled and pitched. None of the boxes had the baked on date imprinted; they were all blank. I have no complaint about the bread or cookies. The pies were the worst we have ever had anywhere, including very inexpensive frozen pies. These were downright disgusting. They were not the least bit appetizing and we didn’t even bother with the Apple pie because when cut it was dry and flat just like the rest. I don’t know if management is aware this happened to us or even cares but it was basically trash. Next time we will try Traverse Bay pie company and be done with it. Clearly you don’t care about customer satisfaction. ...
Read moreWe discovered Nantucket Baking Company a few weeks ago when walking in the neighborhood. We popped inside to get a little treat and were pleasantly surprised. The store is small, but had a nice selection of baked breads and treats, and the cookies were wonderful. My family particularly enjoys their baguettes and it is now a must buy for dinner. We drive past several grocery stores and a different bakery just to get their bread. It must be said, however, that one must go fairly early in the day to ensure that you can get your bread for dinner; it sells fast. The staff has also always been courteous and helpful. The prices are reasonable too.
The bakery is conveniently located next to Martha's Vineyard (a wine and beverage store with a nice deli and a small selection of essential grocery items), Martha's Pizza, and a butcher. It is located on a one-way street, but there is off street parking in a small parking lot between the bakery and Martha's Vineyard. The bakery occupies an old building with great historical charm, and there's something special about shopping this little group of stores. It feels like a step back to a simpler time before malls and warehouse stores. It is worth the visit, and once you do,...
