On a Sunday morning, after a late saturday of tequila and beer, I decided that a homemade breakfast burrito with everything inside it and topped with tapatio was what my heart, and head really needed. My search started downtown at sundance and slowly moved outward but every breakfast location was packed and had a 30+ minute wait. No kidding even Denny's. After at least an hour all hope was lost and the dreams I had of a big breakfast burrito we're looking bleak. On my way home I decided to give it one more shot, and googled "local breakfast joints" and luckily for me I happened to be close to the omelette shoppe. Now I've heard of the onelette shoppe before but never had it; And the best way to test breakfast foods is to see it's compatibility with a hangover, if you ask me. Walk in, the place looked packed and small, I could see that breakfast burrito slipping through my hands like prison soap in the hands of a white collar crminal. I was expecting another 30 minute wait, and i could feel my heart ready to shatter. I was shocked when i was told it's a 5 minute wait. I was even more shocked when it took all of two minutes before I was brought to my table. As I was being escorted past the entrance area, the restaurant began to open up to me as if welcoming me, like a weird drug trip it almost seemed like everyone and everything was colorful and smiling while me and the hostess skipped to our table. Not literally. But It probably didn't help that I was hungover and feeling good that I'm one step closer to getting the breakfast burrito my heart's been pining after. So maybe I was skipping. I sat down to one look at the menu and knew exactly what I wanted. "Coffee and breakfast burrito" I said holding back tears. Once I saw the tapatio on the table, i couldn't help but let a single tear out. It took about 1 minute to get my coffee, and mix it with one of the selection of creamers at my table. As I was about to get my second coffee, my meal was in sight almost by cosmic coincidence. This burrito and hash browns arrived at the table and the look and smell of the beast alone nearly drove my hangover away. As I began eating, Im pretty sure my eye began twitching with pleasure. The flavours of the burrito melded so perfectly together the onion while there wasn't over powering, same with the green pepper. Everything about the omelette shoppe, turned what was looking like a dreary hungover Sunday into a memorable sunday, almost like a childhood memory: one Where everything has that glowing golden look to it like you're almost in a dream. All in all the omelette shoppe turned out to be less of a simple restaurant to get some hangover breakfast food, and almost more of a lesson in trying new things and not giving up. Service was impeccable, the staff excellent( server even asked to see my Id, which I've written on the back of every debit card I've gotten since highschool. Not every place does that and I appreciate the ones that do) and the food, on top of being excellent, pretty much cured my hangover and made that day 100 times better. It was such a good experience that it's possible they...
Read moreThis was me and my fiancé‘s first time going here. We’ve heard good things about this place and decided to try it. We did a pickup and wasnt far from the place (5 minutes). The atmosphere of the place was really nice, cute little Diner feel and the staff were very friendly. I ordered a meat lovers scramble with a side of French toast. My fiancé ordered the farmers omelette. He added pork sausage and got a side of a waffle, and we both got a cinnamon roll, warmed.
When we got the food and got back to our place, it seems like it was sitting there for a little bit because the cheese was not melted. It looked just like it was just unmelted on my meat lover scramble, and my fiancé’s omelette cheese was was partially melted and partially not melted. Our cinnamon rolls were not warmed, but that’s fine we can warm that ourselves. The French toast and the waffles both taste like cake. The french toast didn’t taste like French toast for me, and the waffles literally tasted like cake. It was like a thick type of waffle too and no crisp to it. When I mixed and heated up my meat lover scramble, most of my Redskin potatoes were not cooked and if they were cooked, they weren’t cooked long enough because they were hard to bite into which is not ok. Fiancé said that the sausages weren’t the best and they were undercooked, and wish they were cut a little bit better. They also had a weird after taste to them. After heating up the cinnamon roll, they were very dry and a little tasteless, didn’t have that good flavor that a cinnamon roll usually has, the frosting was ok but it didn’t do it any...
Read moreAbout the conglomerate:
The 3% fee added to every check is upsetting. I've read the gaslighting company-line about offsetting fast-rising prices (aren't they always?) and about it being hopefully temporary (it won't be, they've been doing it for years now). I know that the GM of this location has no say in the matter, but I'm rating the restaurant as a whole experience (not just the locally-controlled aspect) and that fee is sick. Just raise the prices and stop trying to make prices look lower than they really are.
I was also put-off by the claim, on my bill, that I'm supporting independent business. That feels deceptive. It's not independent, this is part of a sizable restaurant conglomerate (4gr8food) which is trying to maintain the appearance of their member restaurants being local/independent.
ABOUT THIS RESTAURANT SPECIFICALLY:
Owen is a very new server and very promising. We liked him and he did a great job.
The environment/ambiance is very nice.
Pancakes are outstanding but syrup is bland.
Coffee was surprisingly weak (and I'm not even into strong coffee). No dairy creamer (half & half or heavy creem).
Omelette was very tasty but the temperature was inconsistent - filling ingredients must not have all been hot. Burned my mouth on the first bite (oops!) but other bites were lukewarm.
Pricing is fair, menu is good. Outside of the conglomerate's problems this would be a...
