Steel Cat Bar — Restaurant in Grand Rapids

My friends and I have always been advocates for Steel Cat and give them a ton of business. Today has changed that, because Elizabeth the bartender, at first she was kind taking our order. She said Modelo was only $5 for the mug, so I ordered that and then another mug of Bud light for my friend. We watched her pour the bud light and then watched her pour the second, it wasn’t Modelo, it was Miller light. When she brought them over I asked if it was Bud Light and Modelo. She lied and said yes. I then told her we watched her pour Miller instead of Modelo. I then said I watched her use the Miller handle to pour. She doubled down on her lie and gaslighted me saying I’m wrong as the two handles are next to each other. She then made a face and says “you want to do my job for me if you think you know better”. I used to enjoy my visits to the Steel Cat Bar, as it was once a friendly and inviting place to unwind and socialize. Unfortunately, my recent experiences have been quite disappointing and concerning.

The atmosphere has changed significantly; what was once a welcoming environment has become increasingly dangerous. I've witnessed multiple bar fights during my visits, which has created an unsettling vibe. Additionally, it seems that gang-related issues have become more prevalent, making it feel like an unsafe place to go.

I genuinely hope the management can address these issues, as the Steel Cat Bar has the potential to be a great spot once again. Until then, I would advise caution when considering a visit. It's a shame to see a place with such promise turn into a location where safety feels...

Steel Cat is widely considered one of the least desirable bars in Grand Rapids. The staff can be impolite, often giving incorrect change and rejecting customers if their tips are not substantial enough. The overall atmosphere of the establishment is lacking.
