I have eaten at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchens in multiple states and have this location on speed dial on my phone to order pick up food to go if I am short on time between flights. I love this location. The servers are fantastic on helping me get my food quickly. On 8/19/23 my wife and I dined here with 2 hours between flights. Julianna was our server and she was amazing -- her management has no idea just how good she is to her customers. I got the Shrimp & Crawfish étouffée and my wife ordered the Shrimp & Crawfish fondue. Both dishes were wonderful -- the fondue was especially fantastic with 3 different cheeses and lots of shrimp and crawfish scooped up on garlic cheese bread. On a side note there was an unfortunate incident with a server named David. Who from the moment we entered the restaurant acted like a loud primadonna. There was a family dinning in the restaurant who had a special needs child of about 2 years old. This child was having a bad day and her parents and brother were doing everything they could to keep her quiet and settled. But she was crying loudly. All of the patrons were understanding, and not bothered, but David just could not help himself and complained loudly to the entire restaurant about how much the child was crying and how terrible she was and how bad the parents were for not controlling her better. All the other servers were just going about their business and the server with this family was trying his best to help the family. David needs some counseling on being more patient and compassionate if he is going to have a career in serving.

Came in on a layover on a Thursday afternoon. We asked a security guy where we might find robustly flavored food and Pappadeux was his strong suggestion. The lower-level restaurant in A terminal is laid-out adequately where we had our carry-ons next to us without much obstruction to others. Ambiance is nice with a vibe of Orleans-style hospitality and decor and funk being played over the soundsystem. I was a bit taken back by the prices on the menu and thus my wife noted we might get one entree and some extra sides (very savvy). We order a bowl of gumbo and they split it into two cups without us asking (very thoughtful). The gumbo was lovely with large chunks of shrimp and sausage and vibrant -large pieces of celery and tomato. Our entree was Snapper with crab-chunks on top, and shrimp, with carrots. We got dirty-rice and green beans with almonds as extra sides. Every dish was lovely and flavorful. The spicy-ness of the Snapper was balanced by the sweetness of the carrots (a great coupling). The beans were not too crispy and not too soft as were the carrots. The dirty rice was flavorful and loaded on the fork nicely. Service was top notch where the presentation of the food and maintenance of our drinks being topped-off was on point. Everything with this meal was thoughtful and robustly-flavorful which was deeply appreciated.

So the food was amazing. We decided to come here during our 2.5 hour layover at the Dallas airport because of other reviewers saying how good it was. They were not wrong. Every single thing we ate (Cobb Salad, Crab Mac and Cheese, Garlic bread) was delicious. And while it may be pricier (hello it's an airport - water bottles are $3.99) the portions are honestly huge so you can get a lot of bang for your buck. There was about a 15 minute wait (crazy for an airport right?) So it's definitely a popular spot for layover meals. So if it's so delicious you might be wondering why only 4 stars instead of 5? We were here during the Delta variant of Covid and airport policy, as well as restaurant policy was to wear masks unless you were eating, and one of the fry cooks preparing and touching everyone's fried food had her mask pulled down below her face, talking to co-workers, laughing, breathing all over everything. Not a single other person in the kitchen with her told her to fix it. If we had ordered anything fried we wouldn't have even eaten here after seeing her on the fryer. If you are being cautious about this virus, maybe ask management to check the staff is properly wearing their REQUIRED face coverings before ordering your food.
