So I recently went to the Hyatt Regency hotel to attend in event that was held in the hotel.
I had a very good & a very bad experience.
The very bad was the event I was there to attend, Sonic Expo.
The event was held on the third floor when you go past the stairs. I bought my ticket and I went to enjoy the event. I met so many sonic, the hedgehog fans, and so many nice people. We just exchange stories of our love of the blue hedgehog, took pictures, and overall just had lotta fun.
A couple of hours later my friend said he was hungry, so we both decided to go back upstairs to the hotel lobby area in order a pizza.
I was a hotel security guards who came to talk to me. They asked my name and mentioned a restraining order. There is no restraining order on me. What there was, was a girl in the state of California who put a restraining order on me, telling others that I had been harassing her daughter, who also lives with her in California at school, etc.
This is not possible, because I am disabled, and I live in the state of Texas. I cannot travel on my own, and I am dependent on a ride always.
I explain to the hotel security guards that this restraining order had been dissolved by the judge in California because it just didn’t make any sense at all.
But the way sonic expo people were talking was as though there was currently a restraining order on me. There is no restraining order. Just a bunch of petty sonic fans who do not like me because someone else they are friends with does not like me.
The owner of sonic Expo, Jessica ( I could have her name wrong) said that it was a mutual decision between her and some other folks that I be removed from the event immediately. She gave no reason as to what I did wrong and only responded with we don’t want your services here anymore.
She seem to act very pushy with the hotel security guards to basically throw me out or maybe arrest me in her presence but those guys were not going to do that.
The good:
Both of the hotel security guards listened to me first. They were very kind, and very professional. They took the time to look for a way to resolve this issue without making a scene nor upsetting me. Both these men could tell I was confused & upset to be missing out on an event that my friend and I drove to from Houston,Texas. Plus I just ordered my pizza. And I was hungry.
The two guys were kind enough to say you can stay & eat your pizza in the hotel restaurant area but you have to leave after you are done eating.
And no, they didn’t say eat quickly and get out. Those two men genuinely felt bad for me, and wanted to do their best to resolve the issue.
I really really appreciate how Hyatt Regency’s staff handled this childish & petty situation. I wish I could’ve given both men a hug and a kiss on the cheek for making me feel safe, despite what sonic expo one is done to me.
Thank you, Hyatt Regency for making this disabled woman, feel safe, despite that her day was...
Read moreI stayed here for my university residency in August 2022. This place is amazing, the staff is beyond friendly and helpful, the rooms were very clean, and the food served by the hotel was delicious. The front desk women first day I checked in, Mary and one lady (big blonde hair is all i remember and her husband is from Turkey), were extremely helpful in providing places to eat that served authentic food. Every staff member I came into contact with went above and beyond to make everyone feel comfortable. The ONLY person that was rude was the front desk manager during a phone call after I left, but the general manager Stephen made everything right and helped me not view the hotel in a negative way. He was down to earth and was very sweet on the phone.
The room was perfect. I had a small balcony that looked out over the airport watching the planes go in and out (see pics). I even got to see the storms with a magnificent view.
The pool was very warm and there was a weird rotten smell, but nothing that deterred from the ambiance provided.
The gym was well equipped and had a decent amount of room for several people to workout. The laundry room attached provided perfectly for my needs and was quite quick.
The little man (idr his name) and the girl (idr her name but she was pregnant) at the coffee shop were so sweet and so much fun to talk to. I was on a chocolate kick and they were so kind in giving me a little extra chocolate. My last day there my coffee spilled trying to get into the rental car and they replaced it no problem.
Jorge, the restaurant host, was quiet but the sweetest little thing. He was very friendly and helpful when I needed information or dietary help.
The two men up front at the door (one an older Mexican gentleman and the other a older African American veteran) were fun. They joked around and gave us many places to eat and visit during the stay.
The cleaning staff on our floor was kind and very helpful. They offered cleaning and did an excellent job when needed. Idr any of their names but they were all younger (maybe 20s) and even the man being trained was helpful.
The servers down in the reception halls were on their game. The food was delicious, and the facilities always kept clean. The people collecting our plates were a little rude but not in a bad way. They would reach over shoulders and across plates we were eating on the collect dirty stuff, or they would ask if we were done before finishing. Idk if they realized what they were doing or if that is normal for their culture or employment. I just took it in stride but maybe they can calm down a little.
All of them need a raise.
If you're ever at DFW staying for a couple nights, stay here. I know I will again if...
Read moreWe weren't able to make a connector flight from DFW to OGG due to timing which is what brought us here. My spouse wanted to stay at the Grand Hyatt, but why pay almost $100 more for a layover room? I was a bit excited as I've never stepped foot out of the DFW Airport.
I booked via the hotel's website direct as they were the cheapest, and just 2 days out no less.
SHUTTLE: After arriving at the airport, we sought the help of the airport information desk in baggage claim, who called the Hyatt shuttle for us. For reference, the hotel shuttle phone is located outside of baggage claim, curbside to the right, at the very end of the sidewalk. A friendly driver picked us up, and we arrived at the hotel in under 10 minutes. The shuttle departs the hotel for the airport every 20 minutes. I believe 2 shuttles run at once depending on your terminal.
ATMOSPHERE: After winding up, down and around the maze of the airport area, we finally arrived. The building's architecture is reminiscent of the Hyatt on Maui, straight out of the late 70's/early 80's. A small and empty parking garage is up front with the hotel just a stone's throw away. There are nothing in terms of outside shops and restaurants in the immediate area.
CHECK IN: Male agent was friendly, professional, and informed us about the restaurant located in the lobby. I had a question on a nearby Japanese restaurant which he wasn't familiar with, but instead offered info about a shuttle that would take us into the Grapevine area which after self-research, included a small town, malls, and restaurants.
We ended up taking an Uber into Southlake instead, which is about 10 minutes away. I for one will always choose to eat/drink outside of the hotel because I love to explore.
ROOM: The hallways smelled old and not fresh.
For some reason the hotel wanted more money for a king bed, so we stuck to the two queens. The view was of the front drive and parking garage, surprisingly via a tiny stand up-only balcony. The room was "soundproof" like the website said, with zero aircraft noise. The beds and pillows were comfy, with conveniently located power sources on the nightstand.
The bathroom had a single basin and shower/tub combo with good water pressure and drainage. Beauty amenities were subtle in scent.
AMENITIES: Free basic WiFi though high speed was available at added cost, iron/board, and coffee.
CHECK OUT: I didn't check out though I phoned the hotel because I wasn't sure if we removed the DND sign from the door. Female associate assisted me and immediately emailed a $0 balance receipt.
OVERALL: Super convenient, and a nice break in between our yearly journey from Puerto Vallarta to...
