I went here for the first time at lunch on a Friday with my parents. We walked in and didn't realize that they had two counters, one for frozen tamales and one for dine in. After being redirected to the correct counter, after waiting at the incorrect one because they were terribly labeled, we tried to ask the lady working a few questions about the options but she was extremely rude and ignored us to deal with other "issues" that someone else could have handled and were already being taken care of. She actually did this twice while we were trying to order our food. In my personal opinion, the cashiers at any place need to be attentive to their customers and be respectful towards them. This lady was neither of these. Luckily, this seemed to be the only person who acted like this but it was completely unprofessional and off putting for a first time customer. When looking at the menus (the frozen tamales versus the dine in options) I noticed that there was a much larger selection for frozen, especially for vegetarian/vegan options. I was excited to try a few of these when I initially saw them on the menu, but after being redirected to the dine in counter I noticed that only one option was available. I attempted to ask about this but the lady was so distracted that we had to ask her at least twice before she even acknowledged us. Once we got our order placed we found a table to sit at. The chairs were extremely uncomfortable and the whole atmosphere felt like it was it was for a backyard get together not a proper restaurant. Our food was brought out to us quite quickly, which I did appreciate, and everything was correctly made. Honestly, the food was pretty good. Not amazing, but pretty good for restaurant tamales. My BIGGEST complaint about this place is that EVERYTHING that they serve their food in is disposable. In my opinion, this is disgraceful for any company! Seeing as how this is half a sit in restaurant, they have absolutely NO REASON to use anything that is disposable for these customers. To make matters worse, they use Styrofoam which is one of the worst things for the environment. If I have the option I would never come here again, but if I have to I will make sure to bring my own plate, silverware and cup.
TLDR: They have pretty good tamales, but they don't have the best staff and the worst of all they use DISPOSABLE EVERYTHING! Just disgraceful and I don't...

Review: Oh, jeepers, let me tell ya, if you're ever in Grapevine, Texas, and your tummy's a-rumbling for some Tex-Mex, Tommy Tamale's the place to be! My wife and I, we went there for the first time, and boy oh boy, it was like stepping into a flavor wonderland!
I got myself the chicken street tacos, and lawdy, they were just the cat's pajamas! The chicken was so tender and flavorful, it was like a little dance party in my mouth. And the Mexican rice? Oh, it was cooked just right, with spices that made my taste buds do the cha-cha.
Now, my wife, she's a burrito gal, and she had the burrito there. She couldn't stop raving about how it was stuffed to the brim with goodness, wrapped up like a present you just can't wait to open.
But let's not forget about the queso! Holy moly, it was smoother than a fresh jar of Skippy peanut butter. We dipped our chips in there, and it was like a warm, cheesy hug with every bite. And speaking of chips, their chips and salsa? Out of this world! The chips were so crisp, and the salsa had a zing that made me wanna holler!
The folks working there, oh, they were as nice as pie! They made us feel like we were old pals, even though it was our first time. They had smiles bigger than Texas itself and were just the friendliest bunch.
The place itself, well, it felt like home. Not too fancy, but just right, with decorations that made you feel like you were in a real Tex-Mex haven.
If you're hankerin' for some good eats and want to feel like family, Tommy Tamale's where you oughta be. I'm telling ya, it's a little slice of heaven right here in Grapevine. Don't just take my word for it; get on over there and taste it...
Read moreA simple idea for an irresistible meal; Tommy Tamale is the culmination of a local tamale business gone restaurant that's both delicious, interesting, and so obvious that it makes you wonder why no one else thought of this first.
Even though Tommy Tamale's has been very highly rated on a popular food review site as one of the highest review restaurants in THE ENTIRE COUNTRY, it certainly hasn't gone to their heads. The prices are still fair and the staff treats you like you're family (to the point that Tommy himself will come over to your table and talk to you like you're old friends).
Anyhow, I love the food here. I mean, who doesn't love tamales?
Besides tasting great, innovations like the Tommy Bowl (basically tamales on rice covered in queso/pico) are both simple, filling (I have a good appetite but a small is plenty for me), and just flat-out satisfying to eat.
Of course, they offer more traditional TexMex meals (tacos, quesadillas, etc.). And while I usually stick to the bowl, I can't imagine that anyone could walk away disappointed with anything here.
FYI, this location also sells bulk tamales and a decent assortment of hot sauces for those that appreciate heat.
So I would recommend you give Tommy Tamales a shot; especially if you're a tourist and never had a good tamale before. I'm sure you'll be...
