Updated Review: I returned 3 days later with my daughter and her friend. I was very pleased with the improved service. We were promptly greeted at the door and service was great ! We had multiple staff members, working as a team, help us during our meal; refills on water were brought without asking; beverages and food were all delivered in a reasonable time; friendly service by all this visit. All of our meals were excellent. We enjoyed a sampler tray of adult beverages and we each had a favorite. The window wall was opened during our visit, the fresh air was appreciated. I thought staff members handled the new mandated masking rule with patrons very well. Thank you for the improvements in service. Look forward to returning.
Original Review: Service was variable. When we first came in the restaurant we waited a few minutes for the lady behind the bar to acknowledge us. She wasn't serving or talking to anyone, she was just standing with her back to the door with her hand on her hip. She eventually turned around when my friend spoke up and asked if there was any available seats. We were passed off to another staff member, who was very friendly and helpful; she said there would be about a 10-15' wait and offered us a drink from the bar and let us know we could wait in the lounge area. We had a short wait for our seats, actually it wasn't long enough because we didn't have enough time to fully browse the attached art center. Our waiter was very efficient and friendly, he offered us drinks while we looked at the menu. We placed our order when he came back with our beverages. Our food orders arrived quickly and was excellent. I had the quinoa salad. Our waiter asked us how our food was and if we needed anything else when he brought our bills shortly after our meals. We did ask for and received boxes at that time. We were not checked on after that point; no offer of refills on our drinks. We finally had to get another waitress's attention to pay our bills. Unsure if the waiter's shift had ended or not. Overall pleased with our experience, would just like to see a little better attention to incoming customers and offer of refills during and after the meal. We do appreciate and understand the stress of service under all the new Covid orders and busy Northern Michigan...
Read moreRead moreStopped here with the family and dog on the way back from a traverse city / Bayshore marathon family trip. We had our dog and it was the only brewery that advertised they were dog friendly so we gave it a shot. Atmosphere was unique, server was great, and food was OK (definitely not bad, but nothing special) -- we were there just after they opened on a Tuesday so we got service right away, and food came out quick. So I definitely rated service and atmosphere high. However, I gave the food and overall rating a 1 star because we were utterly unimpressed with the beer and the ego of the owner. It's just disappointing that anyone seems to be opening a brewery nowadays, and the beer doesn't even have to be good. At first, I picked their session IPA (Lazy River Rampage) - hot day, start of the summer season. I took a sip - it tasted like sugar syrup and there was no head retention - something felt off. Husband tried it - same assessment. I waited a few minutes and tried again - nope, couldn't drink it. I kindly told the server something was off, it did not taste right, and it was very far from what I expected for a session. I picked something else (it was OK, but not undrinkable); he took the other pint away (85% beer was still in the glass). Bill came -- they charged me for the beer I sent back. Again, kindly asked the server if it was correct that the 1st beer was on the bill. Server replied "yeah I talked to the owner and he said to charge you for it" and I quote "thems the rules." So disappointing. Will never stop here again, and we come up here often enough; especially the running community for GLR, so I'll definitely be telling others not...
I used to love this place but I stopped in with a girlfriend of mine while on a bicycle ride ordered a pizza and one drink a piece. We were served by a kid named Trevor. We ate our pizza and drank our drink and then I decide to order one more beer and my friend while I was ordering also wanted a cider drink and they refused her a drink and said it was because she had her eyes closed for a minute. She explained that she had been up late the night before traveling which is true. I confirmed her story because I was with her traveling. Seriously she had one 5% drink the whole day and it was from paddle hard and they cut her off. We didn't argue or make a seen. We just left the establishment. Friend walked out before me and another employee approached me who I hadn't even seen or talked to and said we have nothing against you it's just your friend. I was thinking "how does this other employee even know what was going on? Did they have an employee meeting to talk about who they were going to cut off"? It was embarrassing and uncalled for. Seriously cut off after one drink with the percentage of a can of Budweiser for resting her eyes! Wasn't even buzzed at all. Like seriously what if someone has a hard time sleeping at night because they have a sleeping disorder or a medical issue? I would rate this place a zero star but it won't allow me to so one star it gets. Thanks Paddle Hard for being understanding of a patron's...
