This is the best boulangerie-pâtisserie in the town and probably the region I haven't explored a lot of boulangeries outside of the immediate GB area!). I haven't encountered one this good yet in the city, either. Everything I've tried is light and fluffy, not dense in texture and heavy in butters and sugar. That feels like a rarity now in GB. I was never an escargot (aka pain aux raisins) girl growing up, but Pixie converted me. I just tried the carrot cake and it's the same: fluffy, light in your mouth, and, most importantly, low in sweetness. It doesn't leave grease stains everywhere: it tastes and feels like healthier/ish decadence. Of course, I've had the famous cheesecake basque which is a work of art. I've also tried the cauliflower handpie: delicious. Matcha amaretti: delicious and wonderful texture as well. I haven't tried the breads yet. Bonus advantage: some of the goodies are cheap. And while the rest is a little pricier, right now with the cost of everything in Great Barrington it seems normal, even on the lower price range. True, expert quality here. I also appreciate that we don't tip, here. Thank you Pixie...
Read moreI’ve been driving by this place for years going to and from work. This place is a bakery, but has never been open anytime I drive by it. Like most people I have a 9:00-5:00pm work schedule. While every coffee shop, bakery and bagel joint in Great Barrington are open at 8:00am or earlier, the owner of this bakery thought it would be good to open at 9:00am and close at 4:00pm. Literally making it impossible for most people to make it in. Perhaps they don’t care about making a profit but maybe walking up an hour earlier could double her business. What really was tough though was seeing the sign on the counter that says please do not tip, the cashier doesn’t accept tips. How much more demotivating does she want her employees to feel?. The person behind the counter has to read that all day. How appreciated can any anyone feel having to see that every day while the rest of all the coffee shops and bakeries in the area...
Read moreI was passing through town after a ski weekend with my family and wanted to bring something home as a treat. I discovered this gem and I am SO mad I do not live close- you walk in and you can smell the quality of this bakery. I also saw on the front door their operating hours, with a line stating “or till we sell out” and I thought that was a great sign. The cookies I sampled were delightful. I had a chocolate chip, an oatmeal and another cookie with such a distinct spice to it (couldn’t tell you what that was, all I can say was WOW.) I also purchased a raspberry vanilla cake that was beautiful and delicious. If you live in the area or are visiting this cute town, don’t walk to this bakery, RUN! Oh, and I do believe the owner rang me up and she...
