Pretty good place to eat but not outstanding. We would have preferred to have eaten lunch there but got there a bit too late for lunch unfortunately so we had to order from the dinner menu. We felt the prices were a little high, especially for the dinner entrees (but to be fair they are probably in line with what most other restaurants in the area charge). We (my wife and I) opted to split a breaded tenderloin sandwich and a bowl of broccoli and cheese soup and our server, Angie, said that she would have the kitchen split both of those so that we wouldn't have to do that ourselves which was VERY nice of her and the restaurant! And let me add what a very good, friendly, pleasant server Angie was .. one of the best we have had in a long time (I would give her 5 stars alone if I could!). Anyway, the soup was really good and we both got a nice portion of the split amount. The tenderloin was about as one would expect .. a good size (even split) and hot and tender and tasty with all the regular additions (lettuce, pickle, onion, tomato). We opted to substitute onion rings for the fries that normally come with the sandwich but this turned out to not be a wise move as the onion rings were both few in number (we each got 3 small rings) and not that good (pretty greasy). Also, since there was a $2 upcharge to substitute I just thought there should be more than 6 small rings total. Although since they were not that good maybe it was a kind of blessing in disguise to not get more! š We also opted for a slice of blueberry cheesecake to go and ate that at home later. It was very good .. but at a price of $7 per slice it SHOULD have been! Overall we enjoyed our meal but thought the prices were a bit too high for the standard kind of food that we got ($11 for the tenderloin plus the $2 upcharge to substitute onion rings, $6 bowl of soup and $7 cheesecake). So to summarize .. food was good, but not great .. prices were a little high .. but the service could not have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were there on a Saturday evening at 6pm. We had six adults and a reservation. My husband and I were the first couple to arrive they had us sitting in the diner area right behind the hostess stand which (was a well light area and the main aisle that leads straight to the kitchen so we would have all the servers walking past our table constantly) so I asked if we could be seated in the main dining room where it has dim lights and a wonderful ambiance. The host was reluctant and very physically and verbally perturbed but he did allow us to be moved. The other two couples arrived a few minutes after we were finally seated. We then waited for approximately 15 minutes to be served water and our ordered drinks which consisted of 3 glasses of the same wine and tea. Mind you the restaurant was pretty dead, I believe there was 7 other tables of customers in the entire restaurant. After we received our drinks we placed our dinner orders. It then took 1hour and 20 minutes to receive our food.... Again the restaurant wasn't busy! The entire time we waited for our food our server never came back to our table to refill drinks or see if we needed anything. Once we were served our food it was way way under our expectations! Especially after waiting so long. My husbands steak was over cooked, the other person in our partys steak was cold.... Cold! The chicken Marsala was very interesting I've never thought about making soup adding mashed potatoes to it and then adding a piece of chicken on top of that! I wouldn't advise it.. It was not good! The next time we saw our waitress was when she cleared our plates. We were there for a total of 2 hours and 10 minutes and our waitress came to our table 3 times! We couldn't even get another glass of wine or some more water. Our bills were all $70 - $80 each!!! We all loved the restaurants ambience and wished our experience would have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst thing you need to know is everything is just right.
Step one atmosphere- it's both quaint and chic for a small town restaurant.
Step two service- menu was explained honestly and correctly and we never felt forced about anything. We were being guided and not sold which is the way food should be.
Step three food- now for the good part. Before we dig too deep let me share a tip my colleague told me while looking at the menu (I like this tip btw). If any item on any menu at any restaurant is high lighted a different color from the rest of the menu, it probably means it's really delicious. Just get it. No regrets. But I digress. So we ordered the bruschetta to start it taste like god grew the veggies himself. I'm not even religious. And don't get me started on the bread. So freshly and perfectly toasted that I don't even have a good metaphor. And thennnnn there's the steak. A 12 oz freshly cut heffer of a ribeye that was cooked to melty medium rare perfection.
Step 4 drinks- I had 3 cocktails and they were the best drinks I've ever had with a meal. If you want a cocktail in Greencastle, just come here. Mules are strong with ginger, the orange Manhattan tastes like the freshest take on the 1870's you'll ever experience and the captains punch is a one way ticket to flavor town, little sweet so I'd only have one.
Summary- just go. This is the food surprise of Greencastle. If they are busy be patient its a small town and they still prep fresh...
