Imagine Indiana Jones on a culinary treasure hunt, with every dish at Lost Hollow Beer Company being a golden idol of flavor, a holy grail of satisfaction. This brand-new beer haven in Greencastle has outdone itself, expertly crafting an irresistible journey of global cuisine that dances from the hearty kitchens of Poland to the vibrant food stalls of Beirut, and beyond.
On entering Lost Hollow, there's an infectious, fresh energy, a newborn excitement. Think witnessing a supernova, but with less risk of obliteration and more chance of excellent beer. And speaking of beer, while I could write an entire Iliad about it, I'll simply say this – it's superb.
The culinary voyage begins with the perogies, a Polish delight that would make any babushka proud. They jig a tantalizing polka on your taste buds, whirling you straight to the heart of Kraków in a flavor-filled waltz.
Next up, we find ourselves diving into the fish and chips that are so authentic, so reminiscent of a British seaside chippy, that you half expect to hear a Cornish sea shanty with every crispy bite.
However, it's not all about traditional authenticity here. The poutine, for instance, breaks the mold with a Greek twist that's nothing short of revolutionary. The usual suspects of cheese curds and gravy take a backseat, while succulent gyro meat, zesty tzatziki, and other gyro accoutrements jump into the limelight. It's like Zeus and Dionysus hosted a potluck and poutine was the star guest!
Then there's the shawarma. Each mouthful wraps you in a warm pita blanket, whisking you away on a magic carpet ride to a bustling Middle Eastern marketplace. If Aladdin had a favorite Indiana eatery, it would be this.
And when it's time for a breather, their Greek salad swoops in. It's a classic - fresh, crisp veggies punctuated by the sharp taste of onions and feta, and topped with generous slices of gyro meat. It's simplicity, but it's the kind of simplicity that's perfectly executed, leaving you refreshed and ready for more.
And just when you think it can't get any better, they roll out the Mug Club. I won't spill all the beans here, but let's just say, it's an exclusive society you'll want to be a part of. Benefits? You betcha. Specifics? Go find out for yourself – it's part of the adventure!
In a nutshell, Lost Hollow Beer Company has made an exhilarating debut in Greencastle. If this first week is a sneak peek into the future, we're all in for an enthralling ride. So buckle up, food and beer lovers, and let's get lost...
Read moreDined here last night and shared the fish and chips with the husband as you can select how small or large of portion you desire. Batter was perfect, not too thick and CRISPY! The fries are seasoned very well and the slaw is a beautiful blend of purple cabbage with just enough sweetness and acidity to balance the richness of the rest of the dish. Ask for malt vinegar if it’s your preference because they have it! We also had the sweet cinnamon pretzels from the dessert menu and they really hit the spot. I also enjoyed the old fashioned. It was balanced so well, and I could have had one or two more! The rest of the party at the table had the Gyro, the generous sized Greek salad with chicken and pretzels with beer cheese. We all enjoyed a bite of each others plate. Authentic flavors with real gyro meat from a spit/vertical rotisserie. No pre packaged/pre-sliced, heat on the grill “gyro” meat. The optional add on chicken on the Greek salad was the shawarma chicken…very tender, melt in your mouth and the marinade/spices all blended so well. The dressing was a delicious vinaigrette based (not creamy) Greek style and I heard many, many compliments as it was eaten. The beer cheese has a slight, spicy kick that you don’t get at first but kind of punches your palate and says “HEL-LO” !!! We finished it off with the S’mores plate. This was so nice…a trinity of graham crackers, marshmallows & chocolate bars with a mini container fire (stereo) at your table. I can’t wait to return when they get the brewery license…they are just waiting on that. But in the meantime, they offered and we did a small sample “cheers” of their signature beer. As far as an elevated pub menu…they have achieved...
Read moreWent for wing night on my birthday at 6pm, got sat down quickly and by 630pm ordered the only thing we could wings (chicken & perogies were the thing on the menu). So, our table of 4 ordered wings 3 of them ordered boneless I wanted bone in. As to which I was told they ran out. Now do the math, they open at 5 and by the time we ordered they were out of bone in. Doesn’t stop there, so I ordered boneless instead, some with sauce and some with dry rub. The rest of the table got their food at 7:30pm I had not gotten my wings at all the waitress delivered the wrong things to our table that should have gone to another table. Or didn’t bring the things we asked for. I had A glass of water the entire time which was never refilled. The manager came over apologized and said she would “comp” my meal which would have been nice had I ever gotten one. I wish it was just my bad experience, but the entire restaurant, from 6:30 on, not a single person was served...I had to leave at 7:45 to go to the show I had planned for my birthday. Buyer beware. I will NEVER return. 0 STARS, How does a new restaurant in a college town open have Wednesday Wing Night open at 5pm and be out of wings by 6pm that isn’t just poor planning that is ridiculous. I had high hopes for this place, but I will NOT be back. Really sad cause at my birthday dinner I was the only one who...
