We made reservations, 2 couples and were promptly greeted and taken to our table. The waiter came over and introduced himself and took our drink orders. He asked us if we would like to hear specials, we said yes, and he listed them off, with the enthusiasm of having said them 100 times. The only real issue was the inability to hear him. It wasn’t overly crowded, empty tables on 2 sides, he just needed to speak up. He brought the drinks, took out order and everything was going ok. The appetizers came, we ordered Calamari and Pork Belly. The other couple said the Calamari was great. The Pork Belly was ok, not great, but not horrible. The service started to slip a little through the evening at this point. We ordered a bottle of wine and it was placed in an ice bucket on a shelf behind our table. I had to get up to get it to refill the glasses at the table. We also had to get up to get water refills ourselves. One guest ordered a second glass of wine when they took away the appetizer plate. He received that glass of wine when the meal was almost over. We got our steaks and began to cut into them. I look over at my wife’s steak and it was well done, she ordered medium. We flagged down the waiter and he said he would fix it. Meanwhile I cut into my steak which was cooked at the correct temperature, medium rare. It was probably one of the toughest NY Strip steaks I have had. I ended up eating about half of it but was really disappointed.
Here is the part that I struggle with. When her steak was brought back out, the lady asked my wife to cut into the steak to check the temperature. She went to cut it, where it had already been cut and the lady said to my wife, “that’s where it was already cut into, if you wouldn’t mind cutting into the other side to check the temperature.” My wife did, said the temperature was ok and the lady left. If they had originally undercooked the steak they would have put it back on the grill to bring it up to temperature explaining how the steak was already sliced into. I thought about it for a second and said your steak was overcooked how is it already cut into? One of 2 scenarios happened and neither are appropriate especially for somewhere like Fleming’s. Either the cook in the back had to cut into the steak to check the temperature, which he should never have to do, or they brought my wife a steak that was sent back from another table. I want to be clear, I do not believe they intentionally mixed up the steaks and brought my wife a steak from another table. I do believe that someone messed up, HUGE, and sent the steak from another table that needed to be brought up to temperature to my wife. The night really never recovered. We had to refill our own water and wine the rest of the night. When the server came over and asked if we needed any water, someone said no we have been refilling it ourselves, to point out how they had not been paying attention, instead of apologizing he mumbled a smart a$$ response as he walked away. We were also never offered dessert or even told about the signature Lava cake that takes 15 min to prepare. We watched the manager go to every table in our section to check on them somehow avoiding our table. After this experience I called the manager to share our experience. He told me he would talk to his Managing Partner and get back to me. After almost 2 weeks, I had heard nothing back so I checked back with the Managing Partner and he did explain there was a mix up in communication and apologized for not getting back to me. The reason I gave this review a 2 star instead of a 1 star was the original manager and the Managing Partner I felt were genuine in their response and apology for the poor evening. He did offer to have us both back in and to cover our bill. I said I wouldn’t take him up on that offer but if I do and had a completely different experience I will write an equally honest review representing that. My overall opinion is that for the money there are a dozen better places to have dinner...
Read moreTotal disappointed! We have been patrons of this Fleming’s restaurant for many years. The last two times we dined here were a disaster! Poorly cut and cooked steaks and the service was second rate. It takes a lot for me to leave a bad review and understand mistakes happen but after 2 ruined dinners in a row it required a 1 star review. First- the 35oz tomahawk bone in rib-eye wasn’t even remotely close in weight and it came out medium well. I ordered it “Pittsburg” medium rare and it came out with a heavy burned char vs brown crisp properly done in a very hot pan. The black char was flipped over when it was plated to hide the burned side. The server left the table as soon as he dropped off the food instead of waiting for us to cut into the steaks to make sure they were cooked properly. As soon as I cut in I saw the pink vs red but took a bite anyways to see if I could live with it. That’s when I tasted the burned char and thenturned it over to find the underside was totally burnt. It took several minutes for the server to come back and we had to signal him over. He then said let me get the manager instead of taking the steak back to get a new one ordered. The manager came over who has historically been very nice and always checks on us. It took him nearly 7 minutes to get to our table and then it took almost 20 minutes to bring me a new properly cooked steak. We never saw our server again until I literally had to get up to go over to the manager by the kitchen to ask if our server had left. He came over and said oh, I thought the manager was taking care of you??
Back to the steak… If the new steak had come out quickly that would have been understandable but that didn’t happen. It took nearly 30 minutes from the time we received the burned steak until the time I received a new in addition to the wrong temp and poor service…. The cut that I ordered was supposed to be a 35oz bone in, tomahawk rib eye. I understand the cuts, the pre cook vs cooked weights and have had cut and personally cooked probably a couple dozen tomahawk ribeyes. The attempt to call the pieces of beef that we received a “35oz” cut was an complete LIE! What we received in both occasions was MAYBE a 24oz cut (yes, with the bone in) if I’m being generous but nowhere even close to a 34oz cut. To put it in perspective I can usually eat a 10- 12oz ribeye and be full. I was able to eat the entire 34oz tomahawk myself, minus 2 bites that my wife enjoyed. How can one person eat a 34oz ribeye? I got that size cut so I could basically take home an entire steak to bring the kids. Fleming’s of Greensboro needs to improve the service and the team in...
Read moreI dined at Fleming’s on 12/16 to celebrate my friend’s 24th birthday. David was my waiter, he was polite, attentive, and communicated with our table consistently. When I asked questions about the menu (my first visit) he offered explanations and spoke humbly. Things went left when my table was approached by the manager and asked to turn the a mini flash off that we were using to take photos with the birthday girl (whom we were celebrating.) The manager approached us about this because the table behind/beside us complained about the flash. This couple was an older white man and woman. My table was full of recent college graduate black women and one man. There were a few things that happened after this that made my experience continue to go down hill. For one, I don’t believe it was appropriate for the manager, Charles to ask us to turn the “MINI” light off. It made us feel singled out and as if we were not as valued as the other set of customers. There were many other groups around whom were not bothered by the slight light. Plus, this is obviously not a policy regarding filming and photographing, especially when it is obvious we were celebrating her. The light was out not even 5 minutes before he approached us due to the complaint made by the couple. After this occurred the couple then smiled and smirked condescendingly. They also made statements such as “they should move somewhere else.” And “they need to go over there with that.” This interaction was highly offensive. One, because the manager did not advocate on our behalf and instead allowed this couple to use him in their racist games. Additionally, it made us feel like devalued consumers. Everyone at the table received a bill of $80 or MORE. My question is, would you prefer a party of 7 get up and walk out of your establishment or the negative party of 2? Ultimately, I just thought this was distasteful. It is 2023, people should be able to enter spaces, not have to fight to be there, and celebrate one another.
The blueberry lemon drops were great, but the food was not flavorful however was plated neatly and presented beautifully. Thank you David for your kindness. Manager Charles, I do wish you would have better advocated for us instead of making us feel undervalued in this...
