UPDATE 8-13-24 Another year of being happily married, adds up to 19 years and counting. We chose Print Works Bistro for their weekday brunch. As soon as you walk in the door, they treat you like royalty. There were several welcoming faces and friendly chatter. It was raining so our patio reservation moved inside. However, they sat us at a table for 2 right at the doors of the patio. Perfect! Ally was fantastic, friendly, knowledgeable and very prompt. She didn’t rush us but she didn’t make us feel forgotten either. We started with a Mimosa and a Screwdriver. Ally offered the bread service so of course we said SURE! The bread was warm and wonderful but let me tell you, their butter hits different. It is salty and extra creamy. When Ally tried to clear away our bread plates, I latched on to mine and said I was saving my leftover butter for my French Toast. She laughed and said she’d bring me some fresh butter. We couldn’t resist the Vadouvan Beef Flatbread as an appetizer. We planned to take some home but the crust was thin and light and before we knew it, it was gone. Delish! Hubs got the Smoked Salmon Benedict with a side of Bistro Potatoes. I tasted both and they were very good. PWB’s French Toast is extra special. It is thick cut, vanilla custard challah, griddled to perfection, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside and not soggy. It came with a side of warm maple syrup and 3 pieces of crispy bacon and of course my extra butter. We were stuffed! Then Ally surprised us with complimentary Profiterole Ice Cream Sandwiches. We demolished those too. It would’ve been rude not to. Thank you Ally and Chefs, we enjoyed everything immensely!
6 years ago With busy schedules, my husband and I decided to celebrate both of our June and July birthdays at PWB. In the past we brunched outside. This was our first dining room experience. The decor is beautiful and subdued. Not a TV in sight. Instead they angled mirrors to look like TVs. A perfect example to reflect on the company you are with. Madison was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and how things are prepared. Her descriptions were spot on and the food was not only delicious, it was plated like art. We started with Calamari and wine. The calamari was sliced in fingers, no rings and no tentacles. It was superb! We both got the Braised Beef Spareribs. The meat melted in your mouth and the flavors!!! They surprised us with 2 complimentary servings of Profiteroles. They were so good by themselves, I poured the chocolate sauce into my coffee YUM. This was a wonderful...
Read moreI've been here many times over the years and it consistently continues to be one of my favorite places to eat in Greensboro.
From date nights to treating out-of-town guests, I've had the opportunity to try many different things on the menu, each time, leaving with a memorably pleasant experience of some of the most delicious, well-curated ensemble of food/drinks.
It's got an upscale vibe to it, beautifully decorated in a space that utilizes all the light from the windows that surround it. There's also outdoor seating that's well decorated with clean landscaping and I believe heating as well. Considering all this, the staff is super friendly. I never felt an ounce of arrogance or judgment from anyone, expecting something of the sort as a fine dining establishment. I have felt such a way before in some places, so I thought it was worth mentioning.
Most recently, I came here with my boss who wanted to treat me to something special, considerate of my meal preferences as a preggo lady, but also to celebrate finally seeing each other as we both do much of our work from home with COVID protocols still in place. I asked the waiter how the shrimp salad croissant sandwich was prepared as well as a similar sandwich but with chicken salad instead. He went to double-check with the chef, even noted what another pregnant customer at the time was having (since she was weighing similar options), then came back to me to let me know what safe options were. From what items were pasteurized, prepared fresh, etc I was so pleased with the level of care and compassion he'd taken to find this info out for me so that I could enjoy the things I wanted without worry.
I ended up choosing the shrimp salad croissant with french fries and WOW! Usually, I don't end up ordering shrimp since it more or less tastes the same to me anywhere I go. It's just one of those things I don't feel many restaurants can transform for me and so I was curious to know what Print Works could do with it. Having been pleased with the way they've elevated past ingredients, I was willing to try. It did NOT disappoint. I ate every last bite and feel it's the best shrimp I've had anywhere in recent memory. Never thought I'd enjoy it served up like this!
The menu's changing all the time and unfortunately, I didn't see this on the menu when I checked today. I'm glad I tried when I did though!
I'll continue to keep vouching for this restaurant to friends and family asking for recommendations on where they should...
Read moreOverall really very disappointing.
I have eaten here two previous times and I felt like the food and experience was significantly better. Maybe the quality of both has declined.
This time it was meh. My fiance and myself went for a celebratory dinner and I had to apologize to her. The service was horrible and flat. Seated immediately for our reservation, but not a soul approached about waters or drink orders for 20 minutes. Not until I got someone's attention. The waitress was uninterested in serving us and was flat. Almost to the point of being rude. I wish I could say it was just us, but I witnessed the adjacent tables suffering from the same.
Appetizers came out cold. We went with the crispy zucchini flowers which were cold and chewy and the salmon tartare. The salmon was good with the house made sweet potato chips. We then waited for 30 minutes until the waitress got back around to us and asked for entree orders. Finally at that point we were offered bread service. In an attempt to engage the waitress and to get an honest opinion we asked for suggestions. She had none. She simply said everything was good. I went with the venison chops and she went with the beef bourguignon. I will give them this, the food came out rather quickly but I should have known that was a bad sign. The broccolini was soft and over cooked. The mashed potatoes had a filmy appearance like they had been sitting. The venison was good, but rather flavorless and forgettable. The beef was delicious. We were never checked on after receiving our order...which had they, they would have realized they had not delivered the side of crispy Brussels. But when we flagged down the waitress for a refill of our drinks, we requested our side. She didn't acknowledge the error. Didn't apologize. Just walked away. When they arrived 20 minutes later they were at least warm but we were done with the entire experience.
The pluses...the atmosphere. The neutrals...the food. The negatives...the service. I am sitting in a diner right now...maybe a 2 star, I have had better service here than I experienced last night. It's busy and the tables full, but we have been approached several times about refilling drinks, our order, and with it all a smile.
Overall I would say I am really disappointed and I don't think I will ever come back. Nor can I suggest this...
