We've been frequent visitors to Greensboro since our son went to UNCG. We had been here for the NC FolkFest over a weekend at another hotel that was close to the festival, with intentions of continuing to Kitty Hawk for 3 nights to celebrate our 35th anniversary. Unfortunately, checking the weather while out for dinner on the last night before moving on showed multiple warnings for the area, including severe thunderstorms, gale force winds, and 1-2 foot water level risings from Hatteras Island to north of Kitty Hawk. We immediately decided to cancel all those plans, and my wife was very disappointed. I did some research and called a few higher level hotels in the Greensboro area, but all would bust the budget for us or had no availability, until I called The Proximity Hotel and spoke with Maria in guest relations. After relaying our story, she proceeded to ask a number of questions as to what accommodations we would desire, what our budget could afford, etc. To our surprise, she was able to get us into a King Loft Spa room, which had a large soaking tub (for my wife), and separate tiled shower (for me), dual vanity sinks, and on an upper floor on the back side of the hotel where it was very quiet. In addition, she emailed me 3 recommendations for spas (we had booked a spa day on the Outer Banks), and we were able to book the same services even though it was short notice. Throughout our stay we were treated like royalty, starting with our check-in and throughout our stay. The service all around is top-notch and just as good as any luxury hotel we've stayed at anywhere. The Printworks Bistro is an incredible restaurant onsite, with selections to please every palate. An added surprise was that we realized the first night we went down to the Bistro we had actually booked one of their private rooms for our son's graduation in 2017! We had absolutely no negative encounters with anyone on staff or any requests that weren't taken care of immediately. From Maddox and Darby at the front desk to Dustin at the door and Alyssa at the Bistro (and everyone else we ran into on staff), everyone made sure we had the most pleasant stay. On the ride home my wife and I commented how we never felt that changing plans and staying at the Proximity was in any way disappointing. The only thing we missed was the sound of the ocean. We will definitely stay at the Proximity again when we're...
Read moreNoisy location close to main highway, street so from room 651 you can hear everything. When I checked in on June 3rd 2024 I asked the person to put me in a quiet room and she mentioned the room was extra quiet. It is 3:51 am of June 4th and I have not shut eye at all. The lobby music into the entrance of the building is SO LOUD that I can hear it all the way on the sixth floor.
When I called Taylor to turn the music down she mentioned she would but the music kept going. So for a traveling executive with a full day of work today June 4th and then a drive back home away from Greensboro, this is unbearable.
Your staff is friendly, but smiles can only get you so far. Lack of sleep and deprivation due to loud lobby / front of the house music is undesirable during quiet hours.
If there was a fire or emergency, the music for sure wouldn’t be played as I told Taylor. So I know the music could have been turn off at least for two hours so I could sleep.
I am writing this review so other people beware of not staying facing the entrance and perhaps, the other side is less noisy.
On top of that, there are no complementary waters in the room and I couldn’t even purchase a Pepsi or Coca Cola at dinner in the restaurant.
Basic amenities include water and soft drinks in the menu for dinner. That’s just a standard practice and they are basic needs not delighters.
I will remember from this trip and the noise and when I have to return if I do, for work; I will ensure to stay away from the noise or not stay here at all.
If you cannot sleep because of the noise, don’t stay here. If you bring ear plugs then you’ll probably be fine.
Interesting enough the options to choose how to describe the hotel don’t have constructive feedback labels, only positives which is not my experience.
Hotel Owner, if you really want feedback, mine is as valid as the others. Add open labels or free text to your menu options for a balance way to always seek...
Read moreIt has taken me a long time to be able to write this review. My family stayed at this hotel a lot between April and May of 2022. My family went through a really hard time during the passing of a very special man. We stayed at this hotel so we would have somewhere to come and rest and shower. By the second or third day the staff noticed that we were dragging in, and they went out of their way to ask if we were okay. We explained that we had a family member in the final stages of life and we were having very hard days. Over multiple trips in the following weeks and months, the staff went out of their way to be compassionate and caring with us. They hugged us when we needed to cry and sat with us and listened to the stories we had to share about our family member. They constantly checked on us, and at one point towards the end, they went in together to put flowers in our rooms to help cheer us up. The compassion they showed our family made this difficult time just a little easier. The hotel was the perfect place for us to escape, the rooms became our sanctuary. It was so good to try and sleep in peace and quiet and grab a great meal. My family will forever be grateful that this hotel and the amazing staff were there for us, and you have our loyalty from here on. We can't wait to get back there to say a thank you in person to everyone who went out of their way to help us. It takes special people to see the hurt and then go out of their way to help. This place truly became a second home to us over the months, and a needed refuge. It helps a lot that the hotel is just beautiful and the rooms are so spacious. We had space to decompress, and we were surrounded by beauty. With our deepest thanks and gratefulness, we hope to visit again soon! ** Oh, and the glass water jugs that we could fill anytime we wanted was absolutely priceless! Such a...
