I went to college in Greensboro in the 2010s. I worked in the food industry, but never had the chance to eat at Lucky 32, but had always heard wonderful things. I recently brought my husband, a foodie from Louisiana, to finally get the Lucky 32 experience. We were so excited for the upscale southern menu, but left thoroughly disappointed with our meal.
The atmosphere is quite lovely at Lucky 32 with touches of art deco throughout the restaurant and a beautiful ivy-encased outdoor patio. We started the meal with drinks, deviled eggs, and fried green tomatoes. I immediately had to send my glass of wine back because there was a good amount of cork floating in the wine. The deviled eggs tasted like they had been hard boiled and then stored in the fridge or even freezer for days- definitely not a fresh-made appetizer. The fried green tomatoes were good enough and the portion of both appetizers was surprisingly large, but I would have gladly sacrificed quantity for quality. A true bummer, but we persisted.
Entrees ordered at the table were the Catfish, Black Bean cakes, and Grilled Chicken. Again, portion sizes were quite large, but the plating and execution of every dish was extremely lack luster for the overall “upscale” vibe of this restaurant. I wish I had taken photos for proof, but every dish was plated in a family or cafeteria style with meat, carb, and veggie just floating on the plate next to one another. Mashed potatoes and grits were delicious, but that’s about all I can say for our main courses- nothing else really stood out. I had come into the restaurant excited about the strawberry icebox pie, but was so disappointed with everything else that I decided not to even risk it.
Overall, this experience was a big let-down. They seem to be well-staffed, but just not up to producing the caliber of meal that they are advertising. Prices, at least, are still very fair- but, I’d gladly pay a bit more for...
Read moreI've always loved coming here to Lucky 32 ever since I was just a kid with my parents. I brought my daughter here to experience the same thing I grew up with enjoying at Lucky 32.
The food is incredible it always melts in ur mouth and is never chewy. Whenever it is chewy, it's not a big deal as it breaks down easily still in ur mouth after a few chews. The food is always made fresh and cooked to the perfect temperature where it's not burning your tongue off. The fruit is always perfectly ripe and juicy. Their mashed potatoes have the perfect amount of chunks in them and creamy texture, letting you taste the butter and thickness. Their handmade sauces are pretty good, and I'd recommend trying them both out. The duck here has always been a favorite and a must at dinner time if you ever come by.
The atmosphere has always been beautiful. I remember the last atmosphere before they remolded the inside to a whole completely new look. They didn't fail to surprise me with the new look I never knew about until now. All the waitresses were black clothes or suits looking top-notch fancy at their finest matching the environments fitting look. I appreciate all the beautiful paintings they have hung up on the walls and the lively flowers on all the tables alongside the white table sheet. Everything is just so cozy yet fancy you feel at home alomst in a way. The AC here is always lovely on a hot day outside.
Prices for brunch are cheaper than dinner, but that's because at dinner, you get exquisite fine dining with higher priced food options. I also appreciate how every month they change out their menu food options here, giving you new things to try.
Our waitress Jackie is a very lovely girl she knows the way around to making you smile.
I will be back in the future again, like always. Good...
Read moreThis morning we drove 7 hours to this resturant to celebrate my hubby's birthday. This has always been his favorite place and today's experience was just as good as the Cary location he always visited. He had his usual shrimp and grits and I had the burger, and let me tell you, if you think you've ever had these two dishes before, you've never had them like this. I tried some of his shrimp and grits and it was amazing! I'm not a fan of sausage, and I've had grits before that were usually nothing to write home about, but this place takes every ingredient seriously and what they create is an art. Even my burger was shockingly amazing. I've had good burgers before but a burger is still a burger......usually. This burger was in a whole different dimension. It was seasoned in ways I could have never imagined and turned into something beyond good. It was amazing! Rarely do you find resturants with chefs who truly know how to cook and take great pride in their work. This place is a rare gem. They take so much care and pride in everything they do, the way they take care of their customers, the cleanliness of their establishment. They leave nothing undone. Even right to end with homemade keylime pie, amazing. Again, homemade really meant homemade. It was unique and perfect all the way down to the crust. This place isn't messing around when it comes to food. A good resturant should have food that you can't make at home and this place is definitely that. I wish they had a branch in TN but until then we will continue to travel. It's worth the 7...
