I read the reviews and decided to take my chances. i used triadtakout to get my order delivered, since so many of the bad reviews have been concerned with service more than the actual food.
i ordered some nigiri maguro sushi (2 pieces of tuna) as a test and a philly roll just b/c they are hard to really mess up. the tuna was good--the rice was fresh, the tuna was very fresh, and sliced to a thickness that i like--easy to bite through. the philly roll was pretty standard and was good too.
i also ordered the filet mignon hibachi lunch with a side order of scallops, a side salad with ginger dressing, the white and teriyaki sauces, and fried rice.
the filet mignon i ordered medium rare; it arrived medium, which i knew was a chance since it probably cooked a little more while being transported. it was a filet, so it was tender and tasted good. i was a little disappointed it was not seared.
the scallops were inexpensive and i took a chance. the portion of course was not large, about 6 smallish bay scallops. they smelled extremely fishy, so i'm quite sure they were not fresh. they were not seared at all, just cooked through, almost like they'd been steamed while being grilled (maybe some broth poured on them). a major disappointment. i fed them to my cat, who did enjoy them quite a bit.
the vegetables with the hibachi meal were mainly zucchini with some large pieces of mushrooms and onions. i enjoyed the mushrooms and onions, the zucchini not so much, it was just okay. and generally i enjoy zucchini depending on how it is prepared.
the white sauce was thick and odd and sweet and i did not like it at all.
the teriyaki was some standard stuff out of a bottle, it was only fair, i did not use it.
the salad, as has been noted elsewhere, is pretty much just bagged iceberg with some slivers of carrot and red cabbage. i found what looked like a couple of short hairs while eating it so i didn't finish it. the ginger dressing was decent, i liked it, wasn't the best i've ever had either.
the fried rice was not what i have come to expect from ordering chinese. it's just basically some white rice that was thrown on the grill, i think. just plain rice, nothing special, not even particularly brown, looks like it might have a few small pieces of some carrot or something in it. i haven't tasted it yet b/c i'm pretty sure it's going to taste like just plain white rice with maybe a little soy on it or something. i can use it in some other dish later.
the portions were decent, i ordered off the lunch menu, was hoping to get at least 3 meals out of it, but only got 2, the steak and the sushi.
the delivery driver was really, really nice.
not really sure i would order again. i gave them 3 stars, 2.5 would have been more appropriate, but i didn't hate the meal, i just didn't think it was worth the 40 bucks it cost me (36 including the 4 dollar delivery fee and i tipped the driver 4...
Read moreThis was my first visit to this restaurant. I've always heard good things about it and thought I'd finally give it a try. We arrived right at 8:00 p.m. The restaurant closed at 10:00, plenty of time to have a meal before they closed. The first thing I noticed was the restaurant was not making any attempt to observe social distancing. I found this aspect quite disturbing given the increase in COVID-19 cases and the renewed curfew for businesses. I feel that given the times, sacrifices must be made and it is not unreasonable to adhere to a 2-seat rule, at minimum, between guests who do not know each other. These are, after all, trying and disturbing times. I will note that as a Japanese steakhouse built on the concept of large tables with multiple small "tables" seated together, I get it, but this does make me wonder what other health and sanitation guidelines and/or rules are not being adhered to. Despite this issue, we decided to stay and simply chose to keep our masks on in between courses. While our chef was wonderful (and very conscious of the times we live in) our server was not. Not only did she server the wrong salad to same person twice (neither of whom was wearing a mask at the time) she took the same salad and moved it around the table giving it to different guests until she found the correct one. On top of that, she was rude and appeared to be rushing us along. As we were the last couple seated at the table, I asked for a sushi menu because I was considering sushi as my main meal. At first she refused to get it and told me to order hibachi first. I explained that I wasn't sure if I was having hibachi and would like to see the sushi menu before I ordered. She was visibly upset by my request but finally left to get the menu. When she returned, she immediately asked for my hibachi order again and I told her I needed a few minutes to look over the sushi menu. She was once again visibly agitated but granted the request. Ultimately, I ordered both a sushi roll to share and a hibachi plate. The sushi was excellent and the hibachi was also very good. Portions were very generous. Overall, while the food was wonderful, particularly the sushi, I am hesitant to eat in the dining room again any time in the near future. Should I choose to return, it is likely I will request to sit in the bar area or the sushi bar depending on how busy the restaurant is, at least until the management decides to follow social...
Read moreI have driven by Sapporo’s restaurant for the past few months and always thought it would be a nice place for an evening out. Boy was I wrong! Keep in mind this is early evening on a Thursday so there is no excuse for the events that follow. First we walked in while the “gentleman” was on the phone taking reservation. He didn’t even acknowledge our presence. He was rude to the customer on the phone. I guess that should have been the first sign of how the evening was going to go. Another couple walked in while we were waiting for him to finish his phone conversation. He ignored us and addressed the couple behind us. He sat the other couple at a full grill then sat us at an empty grill. The waitress took our order with an indifferent attitude. She returned with our drinks and the worse excuse for soup I have ever seen. It looked and tasted like luke warm dish water with small flakes of bread floating in it. Meanwhile, other guests are being seated at other grills. We are still the only two at our grill. 10 minutes go by, the waitress brings our “salad” haha I cant believe they have the nerve to call a small bowl of chucky lettuce a salad. During our salad a young mother and her son were seated at the grill with us. 15 more minutes go by and … nothing. So we are 25 minutes into our dining experience with no end (or food ) in sight. Enough is enough. We head for the front to inform them we were tired of waiting and we were leaving. The ‘gentleman” brings out a calculator and says “ok what u have ?” We had two glasses of water, soup and salad. If you have been to a Japanese restaurant you know the serving size of the salad and soup are extremely small. Can you believe he charged us $8, yes I said $8 for the water, dish water soup and chucky lettuce salad? Without an apology and with a straight face. I was speechless. To say I will never ever go back to Sapporo’s is putting it mildly. I will share my experience with as many people as I can for many...
