After staying away for a number of years now, we decided to try this long established Chinese restaurant. They have an online ordering system which we hoped would resolve the poor service on call in orders we'd experienced numerous times in the past - and it worked very well. We specified the time we would pickup the order, and it was ready on time.
The Shrimp Egg Rolls ($1.40) are excellent, the best in the Triad. The crust is perfect, not at all soggy, the filling crisp and fresh tasting - don't even need the mustard. The Chicken Wings (10 for $6.75) were also as good as any in the area - fried perfectly with a fresh, mild ginger taste.
The Roast Pork Lo Mein ($5.75) was very, very nice - with a good amount of pork, excellent quality noodle, and a sauce that aided, not smothered, the flavors, no overpowering sweetness so often found in this dish. The Pork Fried Rice ($5.25 for a pint) has always been one of our favorites, remains outstanding - plenty of roasted pork, and the rice perfectly stir fried.
The Shrimp Egg Foo Young ($9.15), also a favorite, did nothing to disappoint - the dish is light, fresh tasting, with a perfectly balanced gravy - no cloying sweetness. The Mongolian Beef was pretty good, but not quite up to the quality of the previous dishes. The dish contains on thinly sliced beef (and a good amount of it), sliced onion, and green onion tops in a light sauce. The sauce lacks heat, and is sweeter than we prefer - not a bad dish, just not a great one.
The Szechuan Chicken was much the same - a good dish, but came up a little short. The chicken tasted fresh, but there were just too many vegetables as fillers, and the sauce lacked any kick. The Kung Pao Shrimp ($10.75) was simply a bad dish - too many extraneous vegetables, a sweet & smothering red sauce, and the shrimp were too large and lacked freshness.
This place is what it is - a source of generally solid Americanized Chinese dishes - nothing at all exotic here. This is a small place with limited seating, where take out is probably best.
Very much encouraged by this experience, and we'll keep our fingers crossed...

Update: The manager called me and offered a refund and a free scallion chicken meal for next time. I appreciate him for informing me of what happened (new cook which is understandable) and making the effort to make it right. I’ll update to 4 stars once the refund goes through. Thanks!
Original review: I’m usually happy with my orders from here but unfortunately this was horrible. I ordered a scallion chicken combo and it is EXTREMELY salty. It tastes NOTHING like the scallion chicken I usually get from here. I have no idea what happened here but it’s literally inedible. The chicken was soft too, but completely ruined by the sauce. Unfortunate money wasted. I gave 2 stars because maybe tonight was just...
Read moreUpdated: They are still THE BEST! We now live in High Point and tonight we drove 22mins one way to get our Golden Dragon fix! The teriyaki chicken skewers were SO fresh and flavorful! Every single piece of chicken in our General Tso's was a good sized chunk of chicken. As always- HUGE Portions! We love Golden Dragon! They're our favorite still 5 years running & we've tried a LOT of Chinese restaurants in GSO & HP over the years! Best Chinese-American food I've had in Greensboro so far! No, their customer service skills aren't the best, but they've never been rude when taking my order or ringing me up! Huge portions for a decent price! General Tso' chicken is bomb, lo mein is great, awesome egg rolls and crab rangoons! I live on the other side of Greensboro but, it's always worth the drive since all the Chinese places around me pale...
