I arrived here at 12:04pm on a Sunday afternoon. When I parked, I saw people waiting outside, which told me there would be a wait. I went inside and saw more people waiting plus the restaurant was full. At 12:05pm, I put my name down on a waitlist. I was told it would be a 20 minute wait.
While waiting, my son and I looked at the menu so we would know what we wanted when we were seated. He decided on the chicken biscuit combo and I got the 2 pancakes combo with eggs, bacon, and seasoned potatoes.
At 12:35, the host came out to give an update. There was one more party ahead of me. We were sat 2 minute later. I found this place via a post on VisitGreensboro instagram page. They opened 2 weeks ago, per the host.
At 12:39pm, someone took our drink orders. We got 2 waters. Our waitress came with the waters and we placed our order at 12:41pm. The waitress didn’t introduce herself, which is a personal pet peeve of mine.
The food came at 12:49pm, which was very quick. The seasoned potatoes wasn’t seasoned enough for me and they were cold. The bacon had mixed consistency with some pieces being crispy (as I like) while others being more soft/chewy. The pancakes were HUGE and the appropriate temperature. The eggs were average. My son enjoyed his food.
The syrup came in this big pitcher, which was different. I thought it was like a coffee pot at first. We didn’t finish our food and go to-go boxes. The waitress was fairly attentive, so no complaints there. I will say a big plus is that it’s very affordable. The meal for my son and I was $20! I would return to try other options. They use clover as their payment processor. On the receipt, there is a QR code for to pay online versus going to the host stand. This is a nice plus.
I will say they need a better system for estimating wait time and notifying when parties are ready. I noticed the host was very busy and juggling a lot from seating people, answering the phone, checking...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place.... the people are great, the place is cute, the atmosphere is nice and it is not overwhelmingly loud even when packed. The only things that need improvements are the food (kinda important!) and the wait time. We went the first time for weekend brunch and lucked out that we didn't need to wait long for a table. The food took 40 minutes to come out - for breakfast food!!! How?! We asked for crispy bacon and it was farthest from crispy it could ever be. And it was the cheap cuts like one gets in a package from the grocery as opposed to a thicker cut butcher style (which, if you want to be taken seriously as a breakfast house, up your bacon game.) Pancakes were soooo bland and definitely relied on toppings for flavour. The fruit cups.... sigh. Mostly strawberries which is great tie in to the name but they were super sad looking and inedible. Can't provide good fruit for the day? Then don't serve it. But, we really wanted to give it another chance and went back for a midweek lunch. Sigh. The same basic review could be given - BLT has soggy fatty bacon, took over 30 minutes to come out (do you not know people have to go back to work?!), and most everything just lacked flavour. Glad they are always busy I guess - the servers are great and deserve to be busy with good tips. They have the front of the house figured out but we won't be back unless they get their back of the...
Read moreI join a group of men for breakfast every Saturday morning. We had tried two other restaurants before finding "Strawberry", and we're not likely to leave this one. Why? See below:
I've also sampled three of their signature side dishes that can accompany most entrees. They include good old fashioned yellow grits. The grits are rich and creamy--not watery. Other choices include shredded hashbrowns and "real" hashbrowns made from whole potatoes. There are others, but I stick with my favorites.
We ask for the same server every week; her name is Mary Beth. She's very friendly and genuinely attentive to our needs. Not all restaurant servers at other restaurants bother to keep tabs on your coffee cup and water glass. M B does. And she always assures that our meals are up to our expectations. If anything at all is amiss, she takes care of it---right away.
The atmosphere is bright and open. The tables aren't crammed together. But, when the 8 of us arrive, then M B puts two together. And they have a tri-part painting on one wall. Frankly, if my living room would accommodate it, I'd love to have a copy.
So, I'd give Strawberry Breakfast House a 9 out of 10 rating. I suspect that you may...
