Tucked amid a slew of other West Market businesses, Seoul Garden is quite easy to miss. The building is nondescript on both the outside (there’s signage, but nothing memorable about it) and within (the dark wood on white walls is classy albeit familiar). Indeed, the only thing that initially stands out about the establishment is the fact that it is Korean; there aren’t many in Greensboro.
Once the menu reaches your hands, however, everything changes. Seoul Garden has something for the newcomer and the Korean aficionado alike. Dishes range from simple, tried-and-true (udon and ishiyaki) to enchantingly complex (table-prepared gol dishes that combine everything under the sun). Our server recommended the bulgogi, so we tried one with beef and one with spicy pork.
Like any reputable Korean restaurant, Seoul Garden offers an assortment of banchan (side dishes). The kimchi and vegetable dishes were tasty, but a Waldorf salad-like concoction was perplexing. The bulgogi came as advertised, which is to say spicy (they can tone it down upon request) and sizzling hot. Throw in some complimentary miso and a sweet cinnamon iced tea dessert and you’re looking at quite a bit of food for the money ($9.99). It’s worth noting, however, that prices increase sharply among the more intricate shared dishes (including a reservation-only multi-course $100 halibut sashimi).
Staff at Seoul Garden are polite, but the service leans toward slow. This is not much of a problem from a hunger standpoint – the side dishes can tide you over until the bulk of your food arrives – but be sure that you plan for a leisurely meal. Crowding was not an issue during our visit.
Don remains the more convenient option for a quality rice bowl, but with so many eye-catching options left unexplored, Seoul Garden begs for a return visit. This time, we’ll know exactly...
Read moreWe went there yesterday to get dinner. I have never had a ramen so bad in my life. It was just the ready to eat samyung ramen pack. I have traveled to South Korea a couple of times, stayed for over 6 months and tasted many local foods there. I have Korean friends who invite us to dinner, and to say the food here is even baseline Korean is generous SMH. I have been to Danji and the food there is way better. The waitresses here are SO RUDE. It’s like they want to kick you out the moment you set foot in. We were a party of 3 - they served the very minimal amount of sides for THREE people (it’s the same quantity for 1 person too). When we asked to get some more she said it’s going to cost more. Alright we said no thanks - waited for the food to come. The waitress served the food as if we were some low life that didn’t deserve her attention. We asked if they had drink menu and she said she will bring it and never did. When we asked for water again - she said you already have a glass of water. We asked for extra chili powder or paste to adjust the spice and some salt. Again rudely, the second waitress responded how many times you keep asking for stuff. Mind you by this time we had asked water, placed order for food, replacement for sides and extra spice. That was IT. They charged 1$ for rice cakes and added ONE in my ramen. Worst experience in Greensboro and all others I have been to. So overpriced for bad quality food and worse service. Will never return. Should have trusted all the 1 star reviews. Go right across the street to Danji and they will show you what hospitality is, refill the sides, very polite and the food...
Read moreOnly reason I'm giving 1 star is so I can post my review. My family and I decided to try this restaurant out. When we walked in they told us to sit separately because of the Pandemic which we understood. As soon as you walk in they don't greet you well and we waited a good 10 minutes for our drinks. My husband ordered a sweet tea but he didnt like the way they made it so we asked the waitress to change it to a coke and she got upset and sighed when we asked her to change it. Then we waited about 15 minutes to get our food my family had already received their food and I had to wait an extra 20 minutes for a simple Ramen. When I finally received my Ramen it was missing an egg and they didn't apologizefor how long it took. I didn't mind just told the waitress not to charge me for the egg I was missing. The whole time we were eating there was about 8 Flys around our table landing on our food and drinks. Once we received the bill we were surprised on how much more expensive it was for such cheap ingredients. On the ramen they put ham from a can it still had the lines from the can which was crazy to me when I saw the bill. Once we were ready to pay the lady ringing us up told us she was gonna charge us an additional 20% because we were a large group but in our booth there was only 4 adults and my 2 year old son. We paid and left but never going back...
