We go to GB&D probably once per week, but I have yet to write a review because I'm not sure how I can write something that will do this place justice. It's just that good!! I'm not exaggerating when I say that every single piece of every meal I've had at GB&D is perfection. No detail is left untouched and the flavors and textures compliment each other perfectly. Their team pours so much attention and love into their food and it clearly shows.
We've been loving their new location at the commons as well. GB&D has done a fantastic job of incorporating the familiar comfort and welcoming feel of their previous space into their new location, all while adding the additional luxuries of a nice new and upgraded restaurant, with a killer bar and a comfortable patio area. You definitely feel like you're visiting family when you eat at the commons.
Like I said, everything I've had at GB&D has been fantastic, but tonight we got the chicken sando (always a staple for me), the chicky chicky parm parm, and fries. The chicken sando is fantastic. The chicken is fried to perfection. Moist on the inside and crispy on the outside (never too greasy--which is a huge plus in my book). It also comes with pickled cucumbers and a honey sauce drizzled on top. I can't express how amazing this sandwich is. Simple, but delicious. The chicky chicky parm parm was new for us this time, and we loved it just as much. The same perfectly crisp fried chicken, topped with gooey cheese and flavorful marinara, and sandwiches between two toasted pieces of garlic sourdough bread. Incredible!! GB&D finds a way to take simple, locally sourced, high quality ingredients, and perfectly combines them to create amazing dishes. Even something as simple as French fries, GB&D is able take them and make them taste like the best fries you've ever had!
Another first for us tonight was trying out GB&D's cocktail menu. They honestly had so many options that looked interesting that it was difficult to choose. We ordered the "Summerthyme Sadness" and the "Password." The STS combined peach bourbon, berry brandy, & sweet tea, garnished with a grilled lemon, berries, and fresh thyme. And man oh man! This cocktail was one of the best I've had in a long long time. So very refreshing, but also unique and flavorful. Very very good. The sweet frothyness of the Password cocktail also perfectly complimented the watermelon mezcal flavor. Both cocktails tasted perfectly balanced-- which can be hard to do with cocktails sometimes. Extremely happy with the drinks we had tonight!
In the past we've come here for the food, but I think it's safe to say that in the future, we'll also be coming for the cocktails! If you've never been to GB&D, definitely give it a try! You will not be...
Read moreI was there in the beginning in “The Village” before they moved. Third time in “The Commons”. I have always wanted this place to be successful. Always willing to give it another try. Always wanted to write them a good review. No more.
Struggling to distill my sentiment. I love restaurants that have rotating menus, so all of the times I have eaten there I have “tried something” that looked inventive.
What I ordered this morning should have been described as a “breakfast bowl” but was not. It needed a spoon, it needed some salt and pepper, it needed a soul. It had none of those things.
I needed more coffee. The Methodical line from whence my first cup came was 20 minutes.
It had attitude, which included no one asking if we “needed” anything. One of my fellow guests, a German for which this move was way out of character, dug through a side table and discovered salt and pepper in disposable grinders.
There was a McDonald’s Hienz pump by the entrance. I opted against making the trek, having decided the addition of ketchup would like have caused glares from the inattentive staff, while doing nothing to improve the palatability of the potatoes. It is hard to get those wrong.
We left quietly, still hungry, with three bowls still half full. Compared notes in the parking lot. Since I am the local I am speaking for the three of us, who all chose the same thing.
I wish I could say it ways just unmemorable.
Advice to owners? The name sets a high bar, own up to it.
As for concept, either move towards “have it your way” diner, or towards sit down table service.
The reason your guests are often confounded is not because they are stupid and deserve the treatment they sometimes get, it is because the clairvoyance you expect of them is on you.
Perhaps you should pay more attention to what is left on the plates of underwhelmed guests, and less attention to sycophant employees...
Read moreI cannot believe how my wife was treated today at the restaurant. It makes me absolutely disgusted and furious.
She ordered one simple “ chicken sando” - Her table was the given the wrong order to begin with. But they fixed it, everyone got their food but my wife.
After waiting 5-10am she went to ask for an update. It seemed like they forgot about it . The person said they are making it.
Then the restaurant proceeds to make 3-4 more chicken sandwiches and gives it to the next people.
My wife goes and asks again. The different person came kindly and said they will take care of it . Then 4 more freaking chicken sandwiches are served to others while she is still waiting .
She was number 4 and they were serving people with 12 and above. The guy comes back and goes talk to the chef. Chef seemed annoyed. This is the third time someone came and checked up on her with no result .
There was another lady waiting with number 5 probably with the same issue. The Chef goes to her “ here is the order that got mixed up “ and the lady that was holding the sign 5 says “ I didn’t order chicken sandwich, she did “ pointing at my wife .
The chef acts like it’s the biggest inconvenience, the gives it to her rudely. Then as my wife asked for ranches, it was given to her also tossingly.
My wife waited 4-5 minutes , yes 45 minutes, watched 8 same sandwiches being served after she informed them she did not get her food.
Guess what -the sandwich wasn’t even made properly ,Not chipotle mayo- no sauce.
Never ever coming back to this place again. If the owner responds with anything other than apology, I will visit...
