I'm not from the area and this was my first time at Tolly's. We had both had a hard day but this experience brightened our evening. I will definitely be returning. This is probably the best restaurant experience I've had all year.
Food- There are a lot of options on the menu and some that aren't available elsewhere. I was so impressed with the quality of ingredients here. We both ordered the special a 12oz strip steak. I got a baked potato and side salad and my partner got a Caesar salad and mashed potatoes. We also ordered the clam strips dinner as an app. Everything was cooked perfectly. The steak was tender and juicy, and a better quality of meat than at most restaurants. They smothered it with sauteed onions for free and used a dollop of garlic butter. The potato was tender and the salad used romaine lettuce instead of iceberg. The croutons were homemade and crunchy instead of the rock hard ones most places serve. The clams were fried and actually tasted like clams. They have the most amazing fresh cut fries. Oh and you got a few onion rings with your steak. They were sweet and battered with something that reminded me of the fair. They serve Coca Cola products and the iced tea was perfectly brewed. I didn't get a cocktail this time but I look forward to it.
Service- I was hesitant at first because no one greeted us for a few minutes. But it was very busy and we arrived at a peak time. Our server was friendly, polite and attentive without being intrusive. No one tried to pressure us into ordering something specific. No one acted weird that we didn't order alcohol. The staff was genuine and that made me feel comfortable being there.
Atmosphere- It's definitely got a pub feel. They have darker floors and furniture and neon lights. But they also had large windows. There were a lot of TV's. Everything was comfortable and well maintained. It was also much cleaner than what has become normal. They have a patio option which I may try next time. The temperature of the inside was perfect. Most places set it to freezing but this was comfortable. They had these cute stainless steel trays as some of the tableware. It fit the decor and probably helped them economize. Whoever runs or owns this place knows what areas to put profit back into the business. They also had these large ale glasses in a different shape than I'd seen.
I'm so glad I visited here. This restaurant really reminded me of back when there were more high quality local restaurants in Ohio. Most of the amazing places have disappeared due to increasing costs, chain restaurants, or lack of succession planning. If you're considering Tolly's, I highly suggest it. It's money well spent and...
Read moreThis restaurant had been recommended to us on a local foodies group and so when we were traveling in that area we had to stop. Seeing that it was a gastropub I wasn't expecting it to be as delicious and amazing as it was, but It ultimately turned out to be some of the best food I have ever eaten. From their vast menu, we ordered the dragon sprouts appetizer which were delicious deep fried brussel sprouts with bacon and sesame teriyaki glaze. That started our meal off right, but when the meal itself came we were even more impressed. I ordered the Irish Pub meatballs which came with four softball-size meatballs swimming in a bed of perfectly tasty mashed potatoes covered with Guinness mushroom gravy and cheese. It was one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life and there were so much of it that I had to bring almost 3/4 of it home for leftovers. On top of that my daughter's chicken noodles tasted better than our grandma's and was also a huge portion which she brought half home. My brother's seafood salad was chock-full of shrimp and crab and a giant slab of tuna on top of it. Our entire meal was only $68 and for the amount of food that we got that was outrageously good. All of this was only made better by our waitress, Aubree, who was super friendly and made meal recommendations and was so welcoming that we simply have to come back. I eat out often and love to try new places and I can guarantee you this will be one of the places that I returned to whenever I'm...
Read moreI recently placed a takeout order for an order of their crab rangoons. When I got home and started eating them something tasted wrong.. so I took all six rangoons and pulled them apart and removed their filling and spread it with a spoon.. only to find that there wasn't a shred of crab meat in any of them! No onion. No nothing. It was just plain cream cheese. So I called the restaurant to complain. At first they lied to me and try to tell me that there was crab meat in them. I'm a certified Chef through the acf, and if I don't taste it.. it ain't there. So then they told me that I could bring them back to get a refund on the item. Well that's all well and good, but are you going to reimburse me for my half an hour of gasoline that I have to spend to return this because you decided to lie on your menu? No? I didn't think so.
The wings I ordered were expensive for only five wings, and completely devoid of flavor. They didn't do anything to the wings beforehand to prep them. They didn't brine them. They didn't smoke them at all. They basically just took some plain Frozen wings and threw them in a fryer. And that's kind of theme at this restaurant. The food is expensive and uninspired.
The Longfellow family really needs to quit letting the quality of the food at this place slide, or it's going to close down just like Longfellows Shadows did.
I won't be back until you step up your game and have some friendlier customer service. And you should be ashamed for lying to...
